Re: Plotting my own demise.
I took care of mine a few years ago. Direct cremation with no viewing or any trimmings. Only family that would show would be my wife and her brother and maybe his kids (who basically ignore me now unless they need something) so why bother with the show. I wanted them to dispose of the ashes as well ...

Same issue here in NY. Push to electric to the point of banning the items that the a$$hats in Albany and NYC think are bad. They don't bother to look at the reality of the oldest plumbing, water supplies and electrical grid in the country that are ignored until a failure and then patched with lighte...

It's just life I guess, but the weatherman really has some 'splainin to do... 4 days of nice warm weather (it hit 92 degrees here), started moving things around, then it started to get chilly again, Had a couple snow flurries and dreary wet weather every day since with one day over 50 degrees. !!!!...

Yeah Tom I'm trying. Finally got into the shop today. Got to get the summer crew ready. Already rebuilt the steering box and stuffed it in, Just need to finish it up and get the deck back on. Then roll the new super in so I can go through it, needs the wiring gone throughand the engine cleared of ro...

Re: New Project
There likely were a lot of pictures but that branch of the family is gone now and everything that was worth anything was sold, all the personal stuff went to the landfill. Was a very bad scene there. My cousin and uncle lived next door to each other. Uncles second wife passed away and he went downhi...

Re: New Project
My uncle worked for GE as a turbine welder during the heyday of the elec-trac, He had a full stable of three tractors and every attachment they made and was a "tester" for some of the prototype attachments as he had a small farm at the time. I always thought they were a neat design but the batteries...

Re: 1541 carb
Tom you are correct the only change from the "15" HP to the 18 HP is the carb jets. Kohler didn't make a 15 hp but MTD wanted one so they could sell it as a lower priced base model. Kohler didn't want to lose sales so they changed the jets and said, look we now have a 15 hp engine for you. When MTD ...

Re: Helping Hand Rear Carrier
Reminds me of the rear carrier my grandad had for the ferguson. It mounted in a similar way, two wood beams under the axles and a flatbed that sat on the three point arms. The later version had a tool box and sides along with a spindle to put fence wire on. Handy thing to have in the days before sid...

Still have most of my gear as well. Cobra 2000GTL with a host of mods a vintage Robyn SB520D, a President Lincoln set up to sweep a bit more than legal, couple Browning bases and a Teaberry. Plus a stack of mobiles that all came home when I closed up the CB shop I had in a local truck stop. Then all...

Re: 1541 engine replacement
There are a lot of different repower options for those tractors. The only things you need to really watch for is the shaft size and it's height above the engine mount plate. The 1541 was sort of a lie anyway, MTD wanted to sell a "lower" power tractor to make the price lower. They went to Kohler and...

Re: 450 Paint
Yep the almond works great. One big advantage to the 450 is that they were painted with liquid paints from the factory, the 451s and all the later parts were done with powder paint. It's not DIY friendly to work with.

Re: When to engage PTO on a 782
I run Stewarts booze free myself. The common issue I find with the fuel here in NY is that if the tractor sets over the winter they still get condensation in the carb. On the first start of the year I usually pop the carb off, blast everything out with cleaner and run it. Another thing is to check t...

Re: QL rear lift capacity
Not really sure how much is too much, I know my 1641 with the OE rear 3 point would easily lift the front off the ground, even with the blower on it. The hard parts are normally not the stopping point, it's usually the relief valves that dump pressure first. The ASAE rating for a CAT 0 is 450 pounds...

Re: 2072 won't start
As alluded to by the good folks above these tractors have a simple electronic system BUT have complex issues because of it. No start with faint or no solenoid click will 75% of the time be a bad ignition switch. Why, because they were CHEAP! Instead of using a brass contact for the switch they used ...

Re: I’ve gone red!
Bolted together is the design motto of the Economy/Power King tractors. Until about the last 10 years of production when they sort of standardized the parts list it was about as close to a tractor kit as it could be. It's one of the few lines out there where you could park 10 tractors in a line all ...

The diff lock on the 5000 series cubs has a failure rate like the K tractors and for the same reason, the lock fails and binds between the case and diff and POP you now have a window. I've looked at a few of them because they are not all that much larger than the supers and look similar but are comp...

That was the issue I have with bin storage. I bought clear vinyl from a craft store and installed it over the bins. Helps a lot. I've been looking at new bins that would be more like the old pigeon hole types the hardware stores had. Something like the Durham units.

Shop Organization... What language is that? I don't understand... (A suggestion for those who use the open bins, attach thin clear plastic sheets over them. Keeps all the dust/dirt/flying debris out so when you go to get something they are at least clean)

I agree with Tom about folks going to F-Book, but the other thing is that like other groups I'm in, it seems like many have lost interest in anything that requires work or is considered old. I work on a site that answers auto questions. We get a lot of traffic, but many of the questions are looking ...

Re: Chute size
The 551 bottom section is taller and the sides are deeper than the 450/451 but they will interchange. The tips are the same though, except the 450 and early 451s without the remote chute angle don't use the holes for the plastic and metal cable brackets.. The reason I'm planning on switching is that...

Chute size
Anyone with one of the earlier blowers that used a steel chute like a 368 or similar happen to know the diameter of the chute base? I'm thinking of changing the chute on the 451 over because the rocks and crud tear up the plastic chutes a lot. I know the 450, 451, 551 all use a 6" chute but don't ha...

Ken, that view looks familiar, back when we had our Corgi I would blow off a large section of the lawn so he didn't have to drag his ***** in the snow. Used to find leaves, grass, and the occasional hunk of dirt in there. Found a rock in the neighbors driveway one time. It came out like a cannonball...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics
Those V-Bar chains will do a real number on any hard surfaced driveway. Great on ice or gravel though. My machine is still sitting in the shop. The first snow we got here was about 2" and that's not even enough to bother moving it. The next was a bit more but the wind got into it and other than a dr...

Lew, Yep I've pulled a lot of info off the MTD site.
