Re: loose shifter
First step would be to pull the shifter off and investigate. It could be damaged from an abusive prior owner. Check the shifter forks to see if they are bent from pulling too hard on the shifter, they can be pulled back and welded. Another possible culprit is the cup at the bottom of the shifter han...

Sorry to hear that this happened to you Ray.
Hoping and praying for you to listen to the doctor and have a safe and successful recovery.
I don't need anything right now. Maybe I need to remember that I'll be needing something in six weeks if it will help you out.

Re: Challenge Accepted... I need to defend my honor
You need to get a John Deere hood or two. I have found that they really help keep your tires clean. Just place the hood under the tire that you want to keep clean. Take plenty of pictures for your friend. This way you can help him see JD parts put to their best use.

Really neat for sure. I've found that these gizmos are much better for web surfing while sitting on the couch than a laptop. No heat, no cords, just grab and go. I haven't tried it on a CC application yet, I have my snowmobile repair manuals stored in there in pdf format. It's neat to be able to jus...

Re: House Electrical Problems... Arrrggghhhhh
Sometimes electric heat is controlled by relays instead of line voltage thermostats. I don't know why this would happen in a laundry room though. Usually relays are used if the current draw is large enough to exceed the rating of a line voltage thermostat. Sounds like someone decided that this would...

Sorry to hear that your having such terrible truck problems though. Don't worry, if you keep working hard, someday you will get far enough ahead so that you can get yourself a Ford!

Re: lumber size for trailer ramps?
If you want a plank that will not ever break, use engineered lumber. A 1 3/4" x 9 1/4" microlam will last near forever. More money but you will probably never need to replace them.

Good to hear that the purchase of an Original Cub Cadet in 1961 would prove to be a good investment. How often can you buy something, use it for 50 years and then sell it for what you paid for it.

Re: Original 1961 Cub Cadet fender option
My recollection is that no round fenders were installed at the factory. They were available as a dealer installed option. I'm not sure when they were made available though. Even if they were not available right from the getgo, they could have been installed by dealers on unsold models still in inven...

Best pushmower I've ever owned is one of them IH/LawnBoy's. Every once in a while I drag it our and mow the lawn with it just for fun.

Re: K161 HELP!
Yes, it sounds like you have the wrong rod somehow. There were two series of K-161's, the older ones have a 2.785 bore and the newer ones have a 2.938 bore, while both have a 2.500 stroke, so I would guess that the rods are the same. Just guessing here, but have you checked the stroke? The K-181 has...

Re: K161 HELP!
Not sure if you posted the correct numbers to describe your problem. The oversized piston should be .010 rather than .10 . If your piston is actually sticking up .009 or 9 thousands then you should be ok, as the head gasket is a lot thicker than that. However if your number is correct (.090) then ye...

Re: PTO shuts off.
I would start with a good cleaning and adjust the air gap as Doog is suggesting. Check the wiring from the pto coil to the switch, and while your at it check out the switch. There is a possibility that moisture got into the switch and the contacts may have corroded over the winter. Sometimes just cy...

Next question is a freind of mine has an 87 GMC with a 454 Big block. I don't know much else about the truck at this point other than he wants 300 bucks for it, and it's suppossed to run good. Are the small block and Big block bell housings the same? As in, can I take the 454 and simply bolt it int...

Joe:
I measured mine today. The lift cylinder measures 10" center to center when closed. I didn't have a battery nearby to open it up, it looks like the stroke is between four and five inches.

Re: AC voltage killing my batteries?
Your Charger seems to have bad ac to dc rectifiers and may even be the transformer as 15 V ac would only be max of 10.5 volts. I don't think it hurt the batteries but they won't have enough charge. Charge them back up on a low current setting if your next charger has one. It does appear that the re...

Pulling the axles isn't all that bad though.

Josh, The drift buster isn’t really that heavy by it self but I’m sure with it and a thrower you would have an arm full. I think the buster would work fine, the problem is I don’t think the thrower could handle throwing any more than what was in front of it, let alone above it. I'm thinking that th...

Re: Ever seen one of these?
Haven't actually seen one of the signs with the" by mtd" covered up. I do remember that they did add "by mtd" to the tractor graphics, then decided to send out a cover up kit mid year. I'm guessing that the tape on the sign may have been a factory supplied piece.
