Re: Cub Cadet 2284 wont stay running and running out of options.
Dave C. makes an excellent point. Every Cyclops needs all the electrical gone over. These troubles can be difficult to trace, and they can change with heat. If a connection is suspect, disconnect, clean and be sure to coat with dielectric grease before putting back together. Dielectric "Tune Up"...

Re: Cub Cadet 2284 wont stay running and running out of options.
Hi Ethan, and welcome to the forum! Guessing will make you crazy, better to do some real troubleshooting. You can't easily troubleshoot something that is currently running, so you'll have to be prepared when it acts up again. Remember, assuming good compression, all engines want to run, they just ...

Re: Donations needed
Ken's driveway is like an old friend who was always very sick every winter but has vastly improved lately!
Who wouldn't want to hang out on Ken's driveway after seeing it here for so many years?

Re: Donations needed
Thanks to everyone that has donated so far in this cycle! With just a handful of people we are currently within $40 of our current funding need. Just four more people at $10 each will get us there, but I hope we surpass the needed amount. Also note, we took in nearly double the donations needed in...

Dennis, well said regarding the fact that something can be of very high value even if you don't use it often. As for costs to run the site, there is information in the previous donation "sticky" topic from 2022 at the top of each sub-forum. On the bottom of the board's main index page there is a ...

Ken - I was going to comment that your driveway looked pretty good even before you spread out the stone. I hope that's still true after you deal with this snow! Now an interruption as a moderator... Please note the new donation request at the top of each sub-forum. If we can't keep Dave C. in th...

Re: Donations needed
Well, although we've not many posts recently, I still like to drop in and banter with the other few misfits and keep an eye on Ken's driveway and ham radio collection! You'll all have to decide for yourself if it's worth dropping a few dollars in the hat. I think for the numbers we currently have ...

D2, I have the same attitude about FB, but I also won't criticize anyone that does use it. Everyone needs to do what works for them. I will say that apparently FB Marketplace has taken over for buying/selling, Craigslist is crap now. I'm thinking I'll be using my wife's FB account to scope out thi...

Re: Cub Cadet 2284 Hydraulic Issues
Hi Chris, Welcome Aboard! There is only one "vent" for the transmission/rear combination and that is on the top of the differential all the way towards the rear. That wouldn't leak unless you massively overfilled it. I suspect you are referring to the check valves at the top of the actual hydro uni...

From what I've heard, many forums got supplanted by Facebook. But I refuse to go there, so I'll just banter here with the handful that are left. Well, "BM not getting into any skirmishes" didn't last long!
We're terrible... this was nearly a semi-useful thread about a parts washer and it devolved into our typical clown show! But, the fun is too hard to resist.

Wow, definitely dredging up some old banter here! That was a fun thread, I had to reread it to remember the "pasteurized oil" joke by BM, that was gold! Mike - You did a fabulous job! It really looks nice. I'm not a fan of the government forcing us to take electric over gas, but nothing wrong with choosing it for yourself for the right application. Ken - These aren't my thing, but cool to see and follow. I'm amazed at what a hot mess they look like inside, even after "restored". No breadboard, no order, just a jumbled mess of soldered connections in free air! They have to be terrible to trace out unless you have real tribal-knowledge of the...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Kevin has an excellent point. The original ignition switch would have provided 12V to power the coil with a points system. The Command (and Magnum) use a magneto which needs an entirely different ignition switch. The ignition switch for a magneto ignition replaces the "12V power to coil" with a p...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Kohler Command? Are you sure it's not a Magnum? At any rate, you can download the engine manuals from the Kohler website. If it is a Magnum, very likely that the magneto is bad. Pretty easy job other than you have to remove the engine to get to it. Don't believe the posts by people that said th...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
As Kevin says, likely just the inner cable frozen inside the cable housing from some rust. With the style that doesn't have an outer plastic jacket you might first try dribbling some penetrating oil on the outside of the housing and it will seep through the spirals of the outer housing. I've been ...

Re: The Official Weather Thread!
That's just how weather goes sometimes. For my area I'm waiting for the snow cycle to start again. We always go a few years without much snow, people start claiming it'll never snow again, then we get hit hard! I think I'd be fine if I never had to mount up the blower again!
