Re: Donations needed
Building permits are a strange thing and vary greatly among municipalities. When I did phase one, which was paving just around my garage and down the hill to where my actual driveway started, I needed a building permit and an exemption permit on the water runoff. Had I wanted to add any area that ...

Ken's driveway is like an old friend who was always very sick every winter but has vastly improved lately! Who wouldn't want to hang out on Ken's driveway after seeing it here for so many years? I was plagued for years with a stone/gravel driveway. Retired and older, I first had the are...

I too, miss the IH Registry days and the Registry plow days. They were great times. Sometimes I reminisce by looking at the old IH Registry on the Way Back Machine. Sorry to say I have gone the fb way. No cub pages, just Rototiller and vintage engines and walk behind garden tractors. GT Talk use...

Not sure how man know that for nostalgia sake, the IH Registry can still be viewed, at least a lot of it. I have not checked out all the links to see if they work. https://web.archive.org/web/20030928024 ... istry.com/

I did that drive shaft modification on my Cub 147 a couple of years ago. Much better reliability.
Has anyone put a coupling joint like that on a Cub 70 at the transaxle? Those solid couplings seem to get loose quickly.

I've never had a plasma cutter so not even sure what you guys are talking about but it sounds way too involved. But...as ken has been going though this thread what i have had in the back of my mind for....probably decades now. Get rid of the baffles an cut off the back lip of the deck the whole way...

Re: Mower deck baffle
I do have one question. Why did they make those baffles shorter than the ones on the 48" deck? On the 48" deck the baffle height is up to the blade while on the 42 CI they are much shorter.

Re: 1970 model 147 now leaks Hy-Tran oil since changing it.
Try to find a clutch. The manual for the 147 shows the slip clutch on page 2-80. What you described is exactly how I stripped the gear on mine. I got a slip clutch and now I don't have to think about it. Mine looks like the one in the top of the snip I attached.

Does your electric lift have the clutch? That is the biggest saver of gears. Mine did not and I stripped the gear. I acquired the clutch before I replaced the gears.

Re: 1970 model 147 now leaks Hy-Tran oil since changing it.
Just a thought. There was one time I ordered a rear cover gasket and the one I ordered online was not near as thick as the original. I went to the dealer and that one was as thick as the old one and no leaks. One place I did have a small leak was a bolt on the right extension, near the cover plat...

Re: 38" deck
I used a 38" CI deck for years, and now use a 42 CI deck. They do a great job, especially in the fall with leaves. The non-OSHA approved large opening in the front sucks in leaves instead of pushing them forward. I think you will really like it to mow your yard!

Re: Cub 149 clutch on a Cub 147
I did rebuild that clutch many many years ago. I have a spare clutch that is the same that I plan to put on to see what it does. I have the belt tension set according to the manual by gauging the distance between the spring winds. Thanks for the input.

Cub 149 clutch on a Cub 147
What is the difference between the 147 and 149 manual PTO clutch? Considering putting a 149 PTO clutch on my 147. My current one seems to slip too easy in heavy grass with higher lift blades that stock. My 100 clutch will chirp the belt if it is not tight enough, while that never happens on the 1...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics
I tried something with my QA42 on my 147. I block off the grill so none of the hot air from the motor comes out and blows on the discharge chute. It seems to help as I don't have near as many clogs with wet snow.

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics
Congratulations! In May I will be retired 10 years. I look back at some of the snow storms in which I ventured to work at 5 am or 5 pm depending on which shift I was, and realized how nuts I was. Also, the legs were not as agile to be climbing around on greasy, oily equipment. Enjoy! Keep busy doing...

Re: Electric Lift on an Aerator
This is a web photo of the aerator I have. Engineering is not one of my talents. I think the Cub electric lift is not strong enough to lift it directly. I use four 8" concrete blocks for weight.

Re: Electric Lift on an Aerator
I agree, it would be better for a hydro tractor. I may give it a try, putting the electric lift on the aerator. I am getting older and reaching back there and lifting the weight of 4 concrete blocks is hard on the muscles and back.

So glad you posted the drawing of the orientation of the washers. I would have placed them together with the out edges touching each other. Would you advise placing a shim washer at one or both ends of the belleville washers? So much appreciate your advice.

42" CI Deck
You cannot beat the CI decks for leaf detail, unless you have a vac. Cleaned up the back yard today by mowing over the leaves twice, then installing the outlet blocking plate and going over them twice. This is what it looked like when I was finished. Sorry I did not take a photo before I started, bu...

Soon time to do the teaser spring on my Cub 70 and I think I am game to try the belleville washers. What is the height of the original teaser spring so I know how many pairs of washers I need?

Pretty cool to get a long sitting motor up and running.
What are these motors selling for these days? I have a K161 off of my Cub 70 sitting around in my road most of the time. I should find a home for it.
