Re: Look what followed me home

I finished the 982 today I got from Geezer. I had to go over every inch and rebuild/replace many parts. Thanks to Rich Patton on the steering wheel and a few other parts and Mike Bobbitt for the tip on the EBAY auction for the Cat O lower links. I have a couple pieces of the rear PTO but I'll have t...

Re: 18 Mag in 982

Thanks for all the information. I was hoping that I did not have to change the harness to one from a 1872/2072. This harness is in very nice shape!! I already have like new set of 26-12-12 "Firestones" for the back (Thanks Rich Patton), and 90% of the cat o 3 point.

18 Mag in 982

Anybody replace the Onan with a Kohler 18/20 Magmum in a IH 982? How was the ignition wired? Can I use the same harness or should I change to a one fron a 1872/2072?

Best rim width for 26-12x12 Firestones

I picked up a NOS set of Firestone ags. for the 982 I am in the slow process of restoring. What rim width and offset give the best footprint ? I have 8.5" super rims but would spring for a custom set. Thanks!

Re: 364 Snowblower

Matt, You have to use the bracket that Tim outlined in his pic. Mine does not move side to side with that bracket installed. I used nylok nuts to hold that bracket to let it move with the blower frame.

Re: 364 Snowblower

Just look at the overal external condition. This is usually a clue how it was treated. I'd spin all the rotating parts for smoothness. You might want to print a parts dia. to make sure you get everything, especially the drive shaft from the PTO to the blower gear box and the rear frame connectors.

Re: 364 Snowblower

I put one on my 1872 but I had to "re-engineer"the PTO bracket to get the pulleys to align. I made my own rear mounts to make them stronger. It works great. I bought a 2nd one to put on another tractor or use it for parts as many of them are NLA.

Re: 364 snow blower drive pully

Thanks for the reply. I see now how it is held on the shaft. Both PTO assemblies when put on the tractor(1872) ,The pulley is missed-matched by 3/4". I re-fabed the first one I put on the tractor. I thought it was odd that both were off by the same amount. It still is one heck of a snow blower!!

Re: Supers look cool...

I used a wide frame piece, filled in the notch with an old frame chunk, and bought a 11/2"x1/2" bar stock. I welded pieces of the bar stock on the inside of the frame for strength and spacers, the fit was perfect Then cut the lift bar to length, done in a couple hours.
