Re: Hello all from new CC125 owner in Southern Oregon

Welcome Kevin, from Eastern Canada! Some years back, I wanted a 2nd tractor so that both my wife and I could mow at the same time and cut back on mowing time. That tractor was a 'running' 125. A few winters after acquiring it, I felt it was time to give it a decent overhaul, even though I am not a m...

Re: 129 Engine Repair Help Needed

OK; I refilled with fresh oil (SAE30 non-detergent), and played around with it some more... A friend of mine mentioned I should put the air filter on, as some carbs cannot be fine-tuned otherwise. I have a fancy Spectre cone filter for this machine; didn't make a difference. As you can see in the pi...

After some setbacks, some progress... Engine fired up; need to tweak something to get rid of dark exhaust when raising the engine speed. (Exhaust color seems normal when left at a constant RPM, or when throttling down.) 20180316_194543.jpg (Apologies for the rotation; image doesn't display correctly...

Re: 129 Engine Repair Help Needed

That's exciting!! Great job!! As to the carb....have u used this carburetor before to know that it's ok? Have u gone through the carb to clean it up inside. That's maybe a place to start. Good point Dave; I should have mentioned that I completely went through the carb, without disassembling the thr...

When I need to take a roll pin out, I always ask myself if a shoulder bolt with a nylock nut is possible/better when re-assembling... I've made that swap in a few places, and have been happy when I had to unexpectedly disassemble a 2nd time... (I realize that I am contravening the shear strength spe...

This might be useful for someone... I found this method to work well to hold the flywheel while I was torqueing it to spec.

I'd say it looks like the original block was too thin after the boring to install the sleeve which made it very weak and left it break 20180227_171409.jpg As my new machinist confirmed it, Dale called it correctly! My new (small-time, home-based) machinist seemed to know right away how many 000's/i...

Re: 129 Engine Repair Help Needed

Good points, Ken. I got the pan pulled off, but did not disassemble anything. Everything looks good and normal (and still moves snugly and freely). No obvious signs of contact anywhere; maybe I'll find some when I disassemble in the future; not on the radar until I find my next block. Just might be ...

Good question... The kind I would also ask... I'm not experienced enough to give you a great answer, but I would suggest you consider this perspective: Which tractor do you prefer to operate?

Re: Kohler K Series block interchange

Thanks for the feedback! Lots of useful info at http://gardentractorpullingtips.com/engine.htm . (Towards the middle of the very long web page.) I was hoping to use my K321 crank in a K301/12hp block, but I don't think there is enough room in the K301 block for the K321 crank to spin freely. Ciao,

Re: 129 Engine Repair Help Needed

Hi Dale,

I agree it's a possibility; as per my 'poor machining' comment earlier. I originally farmed out the work through a third party, and left the decision about what was best to do to them. I will try to get another machinist (now my current one) to inspect...

Kohler K Series block interchange

Hello all, As you may have read/noticed in another thread, I will be needing another K321/14hp block... They're rare in my neck of the woods, and it rains 12hp blocks... They look so similar to my untrained eye, that I was wondering if a 12hp block can simply be bored out and fitted with 14hp intern...

Hi Dave, I tried rotating the pic above; no luck... :? The pic is a close-up of the right side of the block's cyl. stack (when sitting on tractor). I'll include a few more pics in this post. I got the engine out of the frame, onto engine stand, head off, but oil pan not off yet. The head has no dama...

Well, since I was the last to comment, it is appropriate for me to continue with the same engine saga... I'm about 75% done on my long running project (4-5 yrs.), and was ready to cross a major milestone last night with the 1st firing of the (totally) rebuilt engine. All pre-checks passed. It fired ...

Hi all, I searched the forums quite a bit to find this info (that I'm pretty sure is here), without success. Should make a good How-To thread... Hey Kenneth, thanks for the lead! I'll PM you.

Mike, how does 1/4" reamer and new shaft solve a now out-of-round, larger than original 1/4" bore hole...? (There's something I'm missing...)

Re: Carb rebuild

Hello all,

Winter is back, so I'm back at it inside the shop... Looking for thoughts on places to buy a new or rebuilt #30 carb for my 14hp... (I mentioned a place previously in this thread.) I'm finding prices between 30. to 130. on the internet... Not terribly useful...

Thank-you in advance,
