Re: Trying to start 782D again.

I was working on a friends Kubota last week. I don't know the model, but it is similar to our Cubs. Anyway, It ran fine last year, but this year it just wouldn't run. After checking all the usual problems that cause a no start in diesels, I pulled the muffler off. Boom, it fired right up. Soot build...

Re: U.S.D.I. Cub Cadet?

I was amazed at the list of places this tractor could have been. I have been Googling trying to find a picture of a Cub chugging across the White House lawn or something like that, but I don't think I'm gonna find it. I just might have to bring this Cub back to life.

U.S.D.I. Cub Cadet?

I have a frame from a 126 that has an oval ID tag soldered to it. The tag has serial number 19892 and reads U.S.D.I (U.S. Department of Interior?). It also has N P S- N C R along the top. Does anyone have any info on this? I am thinking this was a government owned tractor at one time.

Re: Quick attach loader slop/play

I think I'm just gonna add some bushings to the top pivot points of the loader and maybe a bolt flange were the loader meets the sub frame. It should be rock solid after that.

Re: Quick attach loader slop/play

I tightened the supports for the uprights, which helped, but my pins/holes are worn. I think I'll just deal with it untill spring. I don't need an outdoor winter project right now.

Quick attach loader slop/play

I started using my kwik way loader on my 2182 for the first time. It works great, but there is a ton of slop in this thing. Is this normal for a quick attach loader? This is my first experience with a quick attach type loader, so I don't know if this is the nature of the beast or what. It seems like...

Re: kwik way loader belt

Well, I got the 5L420 and it was too big, I took it back and got a 5L410 and 5L400. Now I just have to get it running before the snow hits us. I know the loader will get most of the use when it comes to lifting, but I think it is only rated for @400lbs. The crane is rated for 5000lbs. Although once ...

Re: kwik way loader belt

David, Here are some more pics. I took a shop crane, added an axle and put a trailer tongue on it. It comes in real handy.

I bought a 5l430 today but it is just a hair too big. I'm gonna return for a 5l420 tomorrow.

kwik way loader belt

I just picked up a kwik way loader model # 45-18710 for a 2182. I got everything except the belt. Does anyone know what the length is for the belt or have a number I can crossover to get it local? Thanks

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

It would be way easier to swap the cabs out. The 2wd have a different frame with coil springs and control arms. The 4wd have a shackle and reinforcement that goes through the frame for the leaf spring. I think where the steering box bolts is different too. You could convert the 2wd, but you would al...

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

There are different bell housings for different diameter flywheels and clutch sizes. I am no expert on it I just know if your running an 11" clutch you need the big bellhousing. If your 87 big block doner truck is manual trans then you'll have everything you need. If it's not you may have to find a ...

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

BB, If your hubs on the front of that truck are single rear wheel hubs, and they are on a Dana 60 axle, they are worth some good money. The off road/four wheeling crowd buys them up.

I know my truck isn't old, but I couldn't resist.

Re: 1862 Pwr Steering

Ike, Yep, that's it. Just under the rubber dust cap is supposed to be a plastic bushing that stabilizes the shaft. From the looks of you picture, there is no bushing in that column. The bearing is generic, so you could get it almost anywhere. Here is one from Napa. http://www.napaonline.com/Search/D...

Re: 1862 Pwr Steering

I would fix it. If you have the engine out, now's the time. That play might not cause a problem, but it will only get worse.
I fix them by turning an aluminum bushing to fit inside the column. Then insert a caged needle bearing in the aluminum bushing for the shaft to ride on.

Re: Was good enough once

Well, It has officially begun. I stripped the front frame and started mocking up the tractor to play around with different wheel bases. It takes a bit of imagination to picture what it will look like at this point, but I think I got the wheel base. It has a 54" wheel base in the pic. I have another ...

Re: Car Trouble Question

Back in the day a sway bar was optional equipment. Driving with it broken will let the car lean a little in a hard turn or a sudden lane change. I don't see it causing any problems though. I drove with a broken sway bar link for over a year and when I finally fixed it I couldn't tell a difference.

Re: Was good enough once

That 8288 super cub is what I hope my project would turn out like. I am still thinking about what type of joint to use. I am gonna make a small model of the joint with some tie rod ends just to see how much "twist" there is in it. If I don't like it I will go with a wheel bearing/spindle type set-up...

AC voltage killing my batteries?

I have been having some bad luck with batteries lately. Seems like every tractor I have needs one. Well, The other day I wheeled out my charger so I could add a gauge type voltage meter to it. I started probing with my digital volt meter and noticed it only put out about 2 volts dc. Just for the hec...

Re: Cyclops convesion to 82 series

I converted a 2182 to 82 series sheet metal. It is quite a bit of work. You basically have to replace everything from the frame up with 82 series parts, side panels, hood, grill, dash tower, hydro lever, control valve and hydro lines. You will still have to deal with modifying the steering column an...

Todd, I have crossed hard to find seals at skf's site. Last time I was on their site I looked through a pdf catalog, now it looks like they added a search by size feature. Here is a the address.
