Re: Red MTD 782 issues

Sounds like the recurring problem I've had with my 982 Onan. I would say check to make sure your VR is grounded good, but if you're getting 13.5VDC at the white wire, it appears the VR is working. Check the voltage at the battery when you get 13.5VDC at the VR. (running) If same, you should be good....

Re: Any Onan experts out there?

I'm kind of thinking the same thing, now that I've read up some on the Onan governor issues. Appears to be a common ailment for these engines. There seems to be a "loose" spot at the very beginning of the governor arm's travel. Just enough to cause it to wander a little. Eventually it starts to pull...

Re: Mower belt for 50C and pulley question

Here's what I've found using later decks under earlier tractors. The 50C* decks (most) were configured for the 5/8" spindle belt the later tractors used. The 50A* decks used the 1/2" spindle belt that was common on earlier tractors. Your 149 should have used the 1/2" spindle belt arrangement when ne...

Any Onan experts out there?

Just got done wrenching together all my leftover parts to use as a backup mower while the good tractor gets a complete restoration. Kind of a Heinz 57 type thing. I started with a 1512 frame and front axle. I'm using an Onan B48G twin to power it, along with the matching wiring harness from a 982. I...

Re: Hello from central Illinois!

Yep, Todd is correct. it's a full option 982 (model 986) I posted a pic in the "kids on tractors" thread. Bought it about 8 years ago off of an old Craigslist ad. It was listed as just a "20hp Cub Cadet". When I got there and saw a newer P220 under the hood, the rear PTO, 3pt. hitch, and dual hydrau...

Hello from central Illinois!

Hello, everyone! Long time Cub Cadet lover and just getting back to putting together some of the unfinished projects that have been taking up space in the shop. Have an IH 986 that's my main workhorse for now, a CCC 982 that needs restored, and a Heinz 57 Cub Cadet that's being made from leftover 15...
