Re: IH Farmall 140 Bumper Grill Guard

I am pretty sure it was an aftermarket part, most likely installed by dealers. I think I had heard at one time that some of the 60s and 70s versions (in the southern states) were offered as a "Tobacco Special" package that included the front bumper among other options.

Re: CC 124 Mowing Good, Couple Knocks, then Died!

I have been away and will not be back to look at it again until this coming weekend. I talked to my grandfather and he said that one of his helpers that cuts firewood for him jumped on it and moved it. Said it cranked right up and he was wondering why I had towed it to the shop. Now, how it ran or w...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

You guys are awesome and impressive!! Took off the flywheel and the new key I had installed had sheared right down the vertical plane about 1/3 the thickness. I put the old key in it and made sure the flywheel was down tight, checked the coil gap, washer cup side down, tightened the clutch down good...

Re: CC 124 Mowing Good, Couple Knocks, then Died!

Thanks for the help on this guys.....I've never actually had a Cub Cadet that gave problems to this extent and I've been piddling with them off and on the last several years. I really appreciate the help and the patience you all give. Yes the heat sheild? on top of the head was a little oily (sticky...

Re: CC 124 Mowing Good, Couple Knocks, then Died!

It will be the weekend before I can get back to the shop/farm and I will get a picture of the compression reading; but yeah it read 115. The CC 126 he brought had a compression of 120 psi, but smoked and knocked really badly. The Kohlers on the CC's have an ACR ? It wasn't hard starting before, just...

CC 124 Mowing Good, Couple Knocks, then Died!

Well guys......I've been working on (3) Cub Cadets a guy brought by our place for me to get running for him. One of which was the CC 124 I had asked several questions to you all about.....around a month ago. Since I'm donig this in my spare time (weekends), its taken a little while to get it done. I...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

Thanks so much guys....its just hard to imagine that happening with me putting it all back together tight and just pull starting it several times like normal operation. I am really hoping that is it. I really appreciate the help thus far and might get to look at it this evening. THANKS~!

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

After reading back through the posts.....something to keep in mind is that the VERY SECOND PULL after putting it all back together, it fired and sputtered shortly. Kind of like it was going to run. After that is when I got nothing but pops. That leads me to believe that the timing was correct...or c...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

Yes, I tightened the clutch down good and tight.....at least I feel like I did. I got a friend to hold the flywheel while I tightened it by hand as hard as I could. I didn't want to damage it by using pliers, etc.; but I will after I re-check the key. I'll also double check the coil gap while I'm th...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

I can try the compression gauge, but didn't think it would matter since it has the ACR. It sure did push my finger off the plug hole when we pull the rope (not that hard either). The plug shows a good blue spark. The very second pull after putting all back together and pouring a little gas in the ca...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

Guys....I checked the old key and it looked just as good as the replacement (same ones, OEM). I can't remember which I used though. The plug is a B&S (can't remember the number), but is the one that came with it when I got it. I could get a new plug this evening. Would you happen to know how to find...

Re: 1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

Guys.....I went by the local Small Engine Shop and purchased a Briggs & Stratton OEM Magnatron Coil Conversion Kit. It was new and only $40.00. It came with a plug to take the place of the points plunger. Also came with a new flywheel key and killswitch wire. I got everything installed, adjusted the...

1982 Briggs Pull Start - NO SPARK, Need Help

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, But I looked all over and didn't see a discussion area for the "Other" stuff. Anyways...here goes. Working on something unfamiliar to me for a change. I have a friends Snapper Riding Mower in the garage as he wants me to get it running so he can use it. It has sa...

Re: Mower Deck Height Lever MISSING BUTTON

May be too late...here goes...I have had the spring get stuck in side the handle..so I just put a good bit of oil inside and let it sit...if yours has a good spring..it may be all you need to do... You can release the latch mechanism but the button is missing so you have to have something long and ...

Re: Rebuilt Carb. & Only Runs @ 90% Choke.

I believe I solved it guys. I had it off and was gonna replace it with another rebuilt carb that had soaked overnight. Well.....got it installed and it still ran the same way! Found an old gasket BAKED onto the block. Used some WD-40 and a few razor blades and finally got it all off!

Re: Mower Deck Height Lever MISSING BUTTON

Thanks for letting me know. I'll do that. Is Chris a dealer/parts guy or something? Also, I forgot to mention that I have a couple of parts tractors; so I could use the parts from one of them, but would need a breakdown and write-up on how to remove and reinstall the parts. I surely don't want to te...

Re: Rebuilt Carb. & Only Runs @ 90% Choke.

Dave, going back over your post I did the following: Completely dismantled Carburetor per the kit instructions & the How-To on this site (minus the throttle shaft and butterfly) Soaked all parts in carb cleaner with basket for 1 hour and used toothbrush to scrub. Then I rinsed in clean water, then u...

Mower Deck Height Lever MISSING BUTTON

Missing the button on the 124 Cub Cadet I'm working on, and the deck height can't be raised up or down unless you have a screw driver or something to push it down, down inside the lever. Can replacement buttons be purchased locally? Is there a good and easy substitute and fix? How would one remove/i...

Rebuilt Carb. & Only Runs @ 90% Choke.

Guys....I put the Prime Line Carburetor Kit in the carburetor today per the How-To instructions on this site. Before I put a kit in the carb., the Cub Cadet 124 would only run with 90-95 percent choke. A slight adjustment in the choke would kill it. When choked at that level it ran great, revving up...

Re: How do You unhook Throttle Linkage?

Thank you so much Vince. I actually did unhook the linkage just as you said, and saw where the arm has to be "popped" off. I decided to leave it on since it didn't hurt anything. I did have to straighten the bracket that it is on because the PO bent it trying to pop it off. I will surely get with Ch...

How do You unhook Throttle Linkage?

Getting ready to use the How to on rebuilding Kohler carbs from this site to rebuild 4 carburetors that are on my different Cub Cadets. One thing that is stumping me is how do you remove the "ball joint" type linkage that hooks to the throttle shaft on the carb?? I unhooked the other end of it to ge...
