Earl - I've heard of guys changing it out without tearing it down so I'd wait a little while to see if someone chimes in.

Re: Original pto shaft

Thanks much! Have a local machine shop that'll do the work - curious if you or anyone else has a pic or two of the altered shaft before installation?

Original pto shaft

Anyone have experience with modifying a Farmall Cub pto shaft to work in an Original. Seems I've read you can do that but no experience doing so. Any thoughts/specs? Thanks

Re: Fender reflectors

Hey - thanks for the heads up on the reflectors. Checked out the website and may order some if they're still available. Also, I think the guy that's making the reproduction sets is Franz Sturm in Wisconsin. Trying to get contact info for him but no luck so far.

Contact information

Anyone familiar with a fella by the name of Franz Sturm from Wisconsin? He supposedly makes an item or two for old Cubs but can't find any contact info. Thanks

Re: PTO Education

Best info I've found is in the service manual that you should be able to download from this site or others. It gives you step by step instructions on re-assembly complete with pics. If a boob like me can put one together it should be a breeze for others. Hope this helps.

Re: K301 crankshaft issue

Oh, as far as the race turning on the journal, it seems snug and there's no evidence of scoring on the bearing. Also, the scoring runs around the journal rather than front to back if that helps.

Re: K301 crankshaft issue

Sorry to be confusing but I'm not that sharp on crankshafts. What I was trying to say was the bearing journals are scored but the bearings fit fine and seem snug enough to me to prevent the crank from spinning on the bearing inner races. The connecting rod journal (pin) is fine as far as I can tell....

K301 crankshaft issue

Just pulled a k301 apart for a rebuild and wondering if scoring on the crank where the bearings ride is cause for concern. I'm thinking the crank is stationary on the inner bearing race so scoring isn't a big problem. The bearings are plenty snug on the crank and the journal is clean. Thoughts?

Re: Finally motor rebuild starts

To check for carbon build up all you need to do is remove the head. That said, before doing anything else you need to grab a service manual, from this site or elsewhere, and give it a read. The manual is full of pics and will walk you through each and every step. Good luck.

Well, can't say that I've ever had a fake dipstick but see no reason your plan won't work. Also, recently pulled the gears out of a k301 and had no problems whatsoever. Good luck.

Re: K301 question

Great. Have all the correct tin so should be good there. I'll also check the shafts that the balance gears ride on to make certain they don't interfere with the dipstick. Guessing they can be ground down if need be. Thanks all.

Here's a pic of what happens when you mix water, HyTran and subzero temps. Will note that with lots of heat, new fluid and gasket this tranny was just fine. Dudes are tough!

K301 question

Curious about a K301 I have in a 123. It's definitely a replacement and has the top tube dipstick and cam cover dipstick as well. If I remove the balance gears can I replace the cam cover with one without a dipstick and then just use the tube dipstick. My goal here is to make the 123 engine more cor...

Re: Cubbie 147

I personally like the 147s - last of the narrow frames, first 14 hp, kind of a tweener between the NFs and WFs with the widened frame for the big flywheel and a pretty loaded tractor with lights and electric lift. The lifts are actually fairly straightforward inside and the fact that it works is a g...

Re: Sales literature vs actual production

Thanks much for straightening me out. I'd love to have some new ones but can't justify $40-$50 for a set. I'm curious what's involved in making/crimping those dudes. It can't possibly that tough but perhaps takes a special crimping tool?

Sales literature vs actual production

In some of the sales literature for the 122/123 series I've noticed that the fender reflectors are painted yellow. Did they actually come delivered that way or were they bare metal? And how about all the round fender reflectors. I've been assuming that the ones I have that are painted are from re-pa...

Re: Correct motor for 123

Lew - so does that's an that the ones with the tabs are necessarily replacements? For example, let's say a 73 has the tabs - might that be factory? If indeed that's the case I wonder if there's any way to know when they might have changed over? I've got a couple good blocks with tabs laying around b...

Re: Correct motor for 123

Just kidding but it sounds like I need to pull all my engines and get them back in the right tractors!! Ok, how about the engines with the two flat posts down by where a cam cover would be on the K161s? Are those all replacement engines?

Re: Correct motor for 123

Joe - great info! Everything sounds kosher so I'm assuming my later O with the bayonet dipstick is a replacement. I have a couple good 7s without the bayonet so maybe I'll just swap it out and use the replacement for a roller 70 I picked up not long ago. I actually swapped a 70 for a different 70 an...

Fiberglass 122 seat

Getting ready to have a couple fiberglass seats reupholstered and curious if anyone has a guess as to how thick the foam is supposed to be. I stripped the pans down a good bit ago and now can't remember. Plenty of split/torn ones around so hoping someone can stick a tape in one and holler back. Thanks

Come to think of it the engine I posted a pic of above (fresh rebuild) came from the 127. Must have been the 147 with the cam cover stick.
