Hydro release lever

Does anyone know the procedure for adjustment on the Hydro release lever on a 1440? Mine seems to move the same whether the lever is up or down. Maybe a valve stuck or something ? :?

Re: vanguard breather

To try to answer both posts : Yes I have oil mist coming up the vent into the air cleaner housing. Add yes I have checked everything. Compression is fine, no smoke from exhaust, Leak down test I would say is ok. The only thing I found after I cleaned the grime off the front cover was the crankshaft ...

vanguard breather

The briggs engine in my 1440 shows this item included in the engine parts list for the crankcase breather assy. Does anyone have any idea where this goes ?

Re: 1440 hystat

Yes, I've already done the valve adjustment. This is the first Cub Hystat I have owned except the Cub SLT1554 that I mow with. The Hydro Gear transaxle in it is worthless except for mowing.

1440 hystat

I have a Cub 1440 and I know it is built by MTD and I just wanted an opinion on the Hystat transmission. I know it will not support auxiliary hydraulics but otherwise is it close to being as strong as the ones used in the older Cubs. Just to use for a snow blade or pulling a larger lawn trailer full...

Re: Mobile air compressor

Very nice photos. I have access to a Wisconsin V4 that maybe can be converted to a compressor and be driven with the Lister engine. If I remember my High school math this would be a fairly good compressor volume wise at say 700 RPMs. I guess experimentation will tell the story.

Mobile air compressor

Hi all, I recently got a 2 cylinder Lister diesel given to me. It's about a 400 lb engine so it's not an option for a re-power in a GT. It had crossed my mind to run a hi CFM air compressor with it. I have read about some 4 & 6 cylinder gas engines converted to an air compressor. I remember a lot of...

Home built leaf vacuum

I have needed one of these for years and when someone threw the engine/fan in the scrap metal hopper at the Cat dealership where I worked I couldn't resist the temptation to grab it. The engine had no compression and it turned out to be a stuck valve. After removing the head and cleaning everything ...

Re: Speed up pulley for the deck

Thank you for the input. I am currently rebuilding a 108. I haven't got to the deck yet but was kind of searching ahead. I think I'm going to try the smaller pulley... nothing to lose.

Sears weights

I have 2 Sears SS 16 tractors that have a set of wheel weights on them and the one has 2 square flat weights on the rear. Haven't decided if I want to sell them or not. I was interested in their value, anyone know what a fair price would be ?

Speed up pulley for the deck

I was reading some of the old posts on another site about speeding up the deck to cut better. Some of the commercial zero turn decks really zing. I have a 44A deck on a 108 Cub. I came across a pulley in my saved junk that is a 4 1/4" over a 4 1/2. The original was a 5" over a 4 1/2. Has anyone used ...

Hello from Eastern Ohio

Hello everyone. I am retired from Ohio Cat heavy equipment department in Youngstown Ohio after 25 years service. Before that I worked on the family dairy farm. grill metal

. I tinker with about everything and some of the microwaves I have salvaged electrical transformers from have a nice piece of perforated metal sandwiched in the door. I save these for use on grills or any other project that needs a piece of perforated metal. The ones I have saved are already black b...

Removing an exhaust elbow

I have had pretty good luck removing those stubborn rusted in elbows by using an air die grinder and a carbide burr. Cut the elbow off an inch or so from the block and just grind a little trough across the inside of the thread area in a couple places. Just grind thru till the block threads show. Hea...
