Re: 982 finds a new (good) home .
I'm betting it does grow on you, Paul, like the 1811 (782 wannabe) that followed me home last year. Feels a little traitorish at first, then the feeling of transforming from a redneck to a suburbanite sets in.

Re: 129 engine rebuild
Marty, just so you don't feel alone (like I was before reading your post) -- I just sold a 123 to a friend. He mowed for about a month with it and it "just stopped". No strange noises (he said) but the conn rod had let go. I'm thinking it was at least partially a case of carbon build-up. I offered h...

Good for you, Jess. Just the fact that the 123 introduced the hydro to the Cub Cadet line makes them special.

Re: Parts by Jeff-sleeve hitch, PTO buttons and custom parts
Jeff, your PTO pulley puller is so close to what I've been trying to configure - and I can't make one for your price. I've PM'd you because my email isn't set up to just click on your address. I think you've got the answer to pulling one of them without damaging/bending it and I know what they cost ...

Brian: The 1811 came out in 1986 and is CCC. However, from what I understand, it's very much like the 782 and I have no doubt that it can have a tiller attached to it. I have a 1989 version and am just getting into the learning curve on it.

That's not advertising, that's good advice! Having subscribed, I then started ordering the back issues while they're still available. It's a real trip to see the names from years ago that are still active with the Cubs today.

Big Mike, I haven't been posting here very often so I hate to sound negative but that sounds like a brutal way to remove that second (which would be the upper) balance gear. To drive stub out gear and all wouldn't the crank and cam have to be removed? When that's done, the balance gear is easily acc...

Our local news tonight led me to believe that Jim Chabot is chewing his fingernails waiting to come up to Connor to go snowmobiling. We can't find enough snow to go snowshoeing and this one is staying south of us too. Sorry, Jim, but I'm liking it!

Re: Parting a 1872
Parting these machines out isn't all it's cracked up to be. If your time is worth anything you'd be better off advertising the whole tractor locally, on Craigslist and/or eBay. That said, I'm going to guess that your 1872 has a fine-spline rear which the pullers like and those parts aren't too bad t...

I use PartsTree.com as a parts lookup reference (and ocassionally order from them to ease my conscience) and it looks to me like the gear and hydro drive rears are an exact match. I used your 102 and a 149 as models.

Re: "Tiger Cub"
I guess the "Jumping Tiger" and the story of how IH showcased their introduction of the hydrostatic transmission to their garden tractor line with the 123 ("Easy as 1-2-3") is what attracts me the the 123s. There's 5 of them here, one of which I sold to a friend and "winter over" for him, 1 is for p...
