Thanks for the replies. I started to put it together with the plastic cages got all put together and greased went to put the shaft in the housing and the plastic cages bound up in the housing so took it apart and put it together without the cages. I will just cut a seal out of foam like you suggest....

Got a few quick questions.
I am going through my steering box on my original. Would it be an upgrade to put the newer model plastic bearing cage in it rather than the free floating ball bearings? Could a guy use gasket paper and make a seal on the kidney bean flange??

I was told by my local case Ih dealer that the cih federal yellow I bought was made by valspar. As far as cub cadet paint I don't know and never asked.

It's a lot easier to make progress with 50 degree weather! New seals and o rings, cleaned all the muck out of the rear end. Does anyone know a wear spec on the axle bushings?

Looks decent. Even has the IH emblem yet! Every one I have brought home is gone. What are your plans for it?

Duke - the frame had been repaired by the previous owner. I had to weld up a small crack yet.

Jack- the other guys got you covered on what is correct for the steering column.
The previous owner added this little "accessory" on mine.

Dave- I think the original owner of it wore green underwear would be my guess? It spent most of its life in California. VScott- I believe it is the motor it came with and the electric start was added and the kohler tag transferred to the new blower shroud. The bracket by the tranny????? All I can gu...
