Re: 451 Snow blower on 1811

Ike - NAPA has the Gates PoweRated repackaged as NAPA parts. They call them Garden / Heavy Duty FHP belts, and they are green. The green color is so that they are easily identified as the HD lawn and garden equipment belts. My NAPA dealer had the one I needed in stock. Ask NAPA for the same belt, b...

Re: 451 Snow blower on 1811

Tom, I have a manual on the 451. I even read it, however since it covered installation for GT and SGT, I went through it and crossed out all the "For Super Garden Tractor only" stuff. Yep, you guessed it I crossed out a bit too much. Duh!!! It will be bolted tomorrow as per page 13 of the Manual. I ...

Re: 451 Snow blower on 1811

What were you doing with the 451? I haven't seen snow in over a month.... As to the over center problem, The lack of bolts into the frame could cause that. Without those bolts the blower can move all over and allow the arm to go over. To prevent it you install the bolts and then you can adjust the ...

451 Snow blower on 1811

Hi Guys, Just schredded the belt on my 451. :( I seem to recall a discussion awhile back on the lift linkage going over-center if the blower drops much lower than the tractors front tires. I believe there was a recommended fix for that. Anyone remember what it was? Also is there supposed to be a bol...

Ike - Thank's for the tip on Smith's. Free shipping and their prices are below list; that's pretty good. Let us know how they do; shipping speed, package condition, etc. It looks like they may become my cheapest go-to source. Tom, New cylinder came yesterday, was promised today. Could have been pac...

Ike - If mine were as bad as what you are describing, I would replace, but that is just me. This is a high wear item, I would prefer new over used. Appears to still be available new, with a new giant part number: 717-3041A-0637, $164. I doubt you could get it rebuilt that cheap, as it is a welded t...

Re: Blower vs Thrower

Hi all, Getting some attention on this subject, that's a good thing. I do have the heat shield in place, also a deflector on the grill and flex pipe on the exhaust point out to the right side vs straight ahead. I did remove the hand guard on the 451. It caused a real problem on the QA42, damp snow h...

Re: Blower vs Thrower

Ike - I think you will see the difference with the increased rpm. I will comment that I would not set it "a tad high". The specification is a maximum of 3600 with no load. It is supposed to run slightly slower than that under a load. With mine set at 3600 no load, heavy snow load would bring it dow...

Re: Blower vs Thrower

Ike - I don't have any experience with a single stage to compare it to, but my experience with the 450 (same end result as the 451 with the right pto) is that the performance varies with the snow your are dealt. Based on reports from others with both types, my read is that sometimes the single stag...

Re: Blower vs Thrower

If everything is working right that 2 stage should throw the snow across a 2 lane road into your neighbors driveway. My QA42A has 4 paddles on the auger. I thought all of them did. Maybe you have an early one. Todd, Mine could be an older one. My son has one also, It the same as mine. A street rod ...

Blower vs Thrower

For years I have been using a QA 42A (42) Thrower, cleaning out a number of driveways in the neighborhood. This year I have a (new to me) 451 Blower on my 1811. I put the required 6 in pto on the 1811 and set the blower up as stated in the manual. Maybe I was expecting too much but the only thing I ...

Re: Power Steering Seal Kit Number

Ike - It may be that the power steering unit is perfectly fine. What you are describing could be the steering cylinder itself. The steering cylinder is a double acting cylinder, meaning that fluid is pushed in one end or the other to steer the tractor. If the internal seal in the cylinder is leakin...

Re: Power Steering Seal Kit Number

What is the steering unit doing? Is it jerky or hard to steer one way? Hi Brian, No, if it sits for a while you can turn the wheel a ways before it attempts to move the tires. While mowing etc. it seems to work fine, I just notice that it slowly moves where the wheel is centered while going streigh...

Scott, Lots of good info. I'm sure Mike, myself, and others will benefit from it. It would be nice to have a spare unit to rebuild but they can be pretty pricy. Ta...

Re: Power Steering Seal Kit Number

Hi Mike,

I don't have the part # but I do have a note stating the kit was for a JD 430.

Also, a note that http://www.messicks.com/ recommended a kit for a Steiner.

Hope it works out. I'm thinking of doing the same on my 1862 this winter.

If you get any info, please post it.

Thanks,

Ike

Dan, The simplest thing would be to send that 2082 my way. Since that’s probably not going to happen, here is some info. The extension plates are made from 3/16 inch steel and are 5.25 x 4 inches. The holes are 5/8th. They are 3 5/8th center to center horizontally and 2.5 vertically center to center...

Re: Help with QA42A snowblower

Dave, Are the metal fingers still on the front of the chute? I took mine off years ago, it seems to work much better. I think the wet snow was building up around the fingers creating a blockage. I also put a shield on the grill to keep the hot air from the engine from warming the chute. Keep the rev...

Dwight, Thanks, my dad has a fly wheel puller I'll try it, i don't know if it will work. Thanks, logan :D Logan, A flywheel puller may be a bit much for this job, bigger and bulkier than need be. A small piece of e.g. 1/8 x 1" flat stock with a couple holes drilled in it will work. Good luck, Ike

Re: cub 1782 power steering problem need help!!!

Hi Logan, I just replaced the one in 1862. I don't know if yours is the same or not. If so, I drilled a small hole in each side of the bushing, then used a couple of long screws and a piece of flat stock as a puller. By alternately tightening the screws it easily pulled the bushing out. Here is a pi...

Thanks Matt, I think I will go ahead and repair it this winter. It’s going to get a CH22 put in it and become the designated mower. This one has dual hydraulics on it. Since it’s only going to be a mower I should move the dual hyd. to the other 1862 that will probably become my work tractor. I might...
