Not really sure...perhaps there was a leak in the RTV sealant on the suction side of the pump--the RTV was very thin. I can't know for sure.

I appreciate the reply. The ball and spring were present, and clean. Pump gears do not appear worn. When i first had this problem, I swapped in the pump gear set, ball and spring from my dead KT17 that had good oil pressure---no improvement.

Should the bolt that holds on the pulley have a grease fitting in it? Mine doesn't. Can I just drill and tap it for a grease fitting, or does it need to be "special"?

I already got the correct ignition switch that grounds the magneto when "off". Starts and stops on the key.
Swapping the wiring harness was a chore---would have been simpler to keep my old harness and change the ignition switch and wire to mag.
