Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

Sorry, no pics.... It is a good idea, but I just didn't. Engine is for a Red 782. It is the key to my tractor project list... First get it running, then add a 3 point hitch from Xtreme, and then fabricate a rear box blade with scarifiers to help maintain the gravel road on which i live. It is a shar...

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

Not really sure...perhaps there was a leak in the RTV sealant on the suction side of the pump--the RTV was very thin. I can't know for sure.

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

I have oil pressure!!! Just reassembled the case and jugs, and used the starter to spin it over, and the gauge i installed shows almost 40 psi at cranking speed. I am happy, and relieved. No oil to the valve train yet. Looks like the valves get oil from around the lifters which would come off the ca...

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

I made up a little plexiglass cover and RTV and bolted it in place over the channel from the oil pickup to the oil pump. I spun the drive gear and I saw oil being pulled up that channel and toward the pump, then i saw oil dribble out the oil pump relief hole. Installed the ball and held the spring i...

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

I appreciate the reply. The ball and spring were present, and clean. Pump gears do not appear worn. When i first had this problem, I swapped in the pump gear set, ball and spring from my dead KT17 that had good oil pressure---no improvement.

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

Well, i got the M18 fully apart. I won't saw that the main and con rod bearings are "perfect", but they are not far from it. No perceptible ridges--fingernail won't hang up on any of them. There is a slight hint of color--like one of the conrods was just starting to get too warm, but nothing I see t...

Re: No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

UI can't say for sure, but I don't think it was previously rebuilt. I did not not see globs of RTV in that oil channel from the pick up to the pump chamber. I's like to find some way to test out the seal before committing to spending any more money. I have the old KT that I can disassemble and see i...

No oil pressure Kohler M18 Help! Help!!

I finally got to tear this engine down to see why no oil pressure. I got this engine a few years ago to replace a dead KT 8 1/2 ( old timers will know what that means!). I installed it, and immediately saw there was no oil pressure on the gauge. Removed the gauge feed line and saw no oil flowing out...

Re: how to disassemble the center bearing..

OK, so no retaining ring or other such, right?

Should the bolt that holds on the pulley have a grease fitting in it? Mine doesn't. Can I just drill and tap it for a grease fitting, or does it need to be "special"?

how to disassemble the center bearing..

for the 42" deck, cast iron ends for my 127? I am not having any success trying to find a good deck, so maybe rebuilding my old one is the way to go. I have the center bearing still in the cast iron piece. I have cleaned it up, but can't see how to disassemble. Do you press it out from the top to th...

Re: Agri-Fab or Brinly ?? ( opinions please )

OK, Thanks for this thread. It answers most of my questions---so the Cub with a Brinly can be used to maintain a gravel road. Good news. Any feeling on whether the Sleeve hitch or the 3 point is better? More control? More durable? I have a 127 and a 782. The 782 is a hydro lift, but aluminum rear, w...

Re: The joy of an Original

Yes! I see from your picture you are maintaining a gravel road. Are you using the Cub for that? I have an old farm road...lots of pot holes and very hard-packed gravel. I have thought about installing a three point hitch and using a box blade. but I have doubts that I would be able to break up the h...

The joy of an Original

I haven't used my Original for several years. The 127 has been my mainstay--at least until I rebuild the engine in the 782. But yesterday, the 127 lost the mule drive belt when I was about half done mowing my little acre. I charged up the battery on the Original, checked the fluid levels, filled the...

It IS a nice picture, but that's not mine. Its a pic I found on line to guide my filter and hose installation.

Engine came from a fellow member here--Steve, in White Hall, MD--look up a few posts.

Re: Repower 782 with M18

I already got the correct ignition switch that grounds the magneto when "off". Starts and stops on the key.
Swapping the wiring harness was a chore---would have been simpler to keep my old harness and change the ignition switch and wire to mag.

Repower 782 with M18

I am repowering my 782 using a M18 to replace the KT17. Pretty straight forward as they are basically the same engine--except the M18 has magneto rather than point ignition, and the M18 has a remote oil filter. Can someone post a picture of where the remote oil filter mounts? I have the mount and th...

Re: Repower options for 782

I got a private message from Stevet in White Hall, MD, but I cannot respond to it-there must be a fault in the code, somewhere. I have a username and password, and can post here, but can't respond to the private message. Stevet, if your offer is still good, I am interested. Mod note: Steve, please e...

Repower options for 782

The KT17 series II in my 782 just died. Running great, then a clunk, lots of rattling, then smoke, massive smoke. All happened within about 5 seconds. I am very temped by the HF Predator V-twin. I have read that the small alternator will not produce enough current for the electric PTO. Since it is a...

Has anyone added a bypass oil filter to KT engine?

My series II has an oil pump but no provision for a filter to be added. Has anyone added a bypass filter to one of these engines
Would it really be a benefit?
