Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
The best one that I ever bought was also the cheapest one that I ever bought. It was a Taiwan import that came from Rich Patton about six years ago. It was silver in color and nearly identical in appearance to the factory can seam style. The thing that continues to amaze me about it is just how qui...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Very nice job there Mike. I'm also a 108 owner. Instead of painting my foot pads I cleaned them up and gave them to a friend who was getting his truck bed sprayed with bed liner. Turned out nice and has a little grip to them. Lance: Good idea. I need a new muffler for the 108 as this one is old and...

Re: 1975 Cub Cadet Great Shape
That 108 is super nice. I sold my 108 (a '72) one time but the buyer didn't think it had enough HP so he ask me to take it back. He is my friend and had not paid me ($500)- so it was easy to take back (and I had seller's remorse real bad so thank Goodness that I got it back.) I am real glad I got it...

That sticker is on the underside of that cover/pan on my CC's.

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Nice work! What’s with the decal under the seat? I have put the CC in my son in law's garage next door so it is not in front of me right now. That decal was the same as on the original. I'm not remembering what it says (some sort of warning about something.) I'll find out and post. I appreciate the...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Sort of hate to say it but the 108 is finished. The foot rests need to be black but everything else is done. This includes the clutch which now works great. Tks to all on this site that helped me through this process.

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Back on the CC108 subject: I bought the parts you fine folks recommended. Photos attached. Also bought another 'collar' that holds all on the shaft. Two of them ought to not come loose. I'm not too sure why I worried about that as this CC will never mow a blade of grass. It mowed plenty over 20 year...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
The engine is a 272ci. I'm not sure it was the original engine or not. I believe FORD used the 292 Y-Block engine in the '55 T-Bird. With the 4 bbl carb it would have been designated as a 182 HP "Power Pack". I looked it up and you are correct: only 292ci in '55. The machine shop guys said this one...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
The engine is a 272ci. I'm not sure it was the original engine or not. It was not pumping oil up to the top of the heads and was going to be ruined (in our opinion) in short order. Engine rebuild kit was expensive for that rare engine. We had the block machined, crank turned and heads redone, new ca...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Had the local JD dealership work on the JD345. Got some new gage wheels for Christmas. Going to put the clutch and drive shaft back in the 108 today or tomorrow. I got the parts (teaser spring and spacer) as directed. A '55 Tbird that we rebuilt the engine on (had 0-zero-oil pressure).

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Does your driveshaft have any wear in the area my finger is pointing? This area is where the throw out bearing goes. clutch021.JPG Replace if it shows any wear. Long run you will glad you did. It looks like you are missing a spacer (# 20) per the Cub Cadet parts lookup http://www.cubcadet.com/webap...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
We have had a problem with the clutch on this 108. We had it put together wrong at first but think now we have it correct. I am enclosing some photos of the clutch shaft. You fine folks can advise if it is assembled correctly or not. The photos show that the 'teaser spring' is mashed flat. We think ...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
It's grinding because the driveshaft is turning. Sounds like the paint overspray and adjustment is where you need to be looking. Tom: I see. The metal disc that the clutch disc engages needs to be clear of paint. Right? We can pull the engine and do that if that is needed. tks, Live and learn. Mike

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
Mike The drive shaft should not spin when the pedal is locked down. Not to bash your work but I like to go through every part on a resto before I reassemble. Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild
We put a new clutch disc in this 108. It is not working very well. the tractor doesn't want to 'take off' at times. Seems to have too much slack between the clutch disc and the steel pieces on either side. The shaft going to the trans turns all the time. Is that correct? Can one of you fine folks te...

Way down here in the Deep South they close the schools with just the threat of snow. It did snow on Dec 8: 4-6 inches in places. Biggest snow since 1982. They closed the schools.

Mike - As you move forward, slow down, read the manuals on here and ask questions. Bad surprises like breaking the pulley can be avoided if you know about things such as the secret extra set screws! Also, you will need this type of knowledge to reassemble properly. Well, I do go too quick at times....
