Rick, did you get one of those China knock off specials? I picked one up a month or so back but didn't get around to installing it yet. For $85 shipped to my door it was cheaper than a rebuild kit. Just throwing this out there...Could you have a valve issue? Maybe do a compression or leak down...

Awesome news Rick + I added that web site to my list for Onan parts now. I didn't know about them and their prices look to be pretty good too.

Rick, give Gary a call at his shop 989-689-5092 or pm me for Boomers number. I saw that too that the Onan Parts place is closed until October. I purchased a new coil and it looks like the one on the right in your pic. I'm thinking that that is all that is available but either of these guys would kno...

Re: 982 hard to get running

As I said in an earlier post, I would contact Gary up in Michigan or Boomer after I sent that one back. I've talked to both guys several times and they can tell you what you need. They have a ton of experience on them. I think the coil has changed design and you need the one with the bracket. No way...

Re: 982 hard to get running

+1 on what Tom said. I also found out in all the digging around I did when I rebuilt mine that there is a rubber gasket that goes around the oil filter to keep the air inside the tin to cool that side. Without it there is a bunch of air that escapes. I think it was $3.00 or $4.00 DSCN3292.JPG DSCN32...

Re: 982 hard to get running

Looks like your emulsion tube is broken. I'm not sure if that is available. I just did a complete rebuild on a P220 and put in one of my 982's. If you need Onan parts these are the only 3 places I deal with and they all are great. https://www.onanparts.com/ http://www.gphope.com/store/cat/57 Gary's ...

Re: 982 yellow?

I'd be all over that for $1k. I just looked at the ad. It's kind of strange though. The frame tag looks like an IH tag and not a CCC one. Tractor has power steering but 982's didn't. The 356 tiller alone is probably worth $500-$600 easy, rear pto is at least another$400 to $500 and then the cat 0 is...

Re: Back at it.

Colin, check your fuel pump too and make sure it didn't fail causing your sump to fill with fuel. If you pull the carb to rebuild it make sure to shine a light down the intake manifold to see if the seam has split or is leaking. Mine was sucking air so I drilled the rivets out to split it, polished ...

Re: Back at it.

Nice looking 982(986) Colin. The decals are correct and your tag should be 144986399. 144 = built in 1984 -- 986=rear pto with front ports -- 399 = IH red. I love 982's and Onan engines. I'm not too far from you and maybe we can meet up at the next pd or show.

Nice 682. Your machine was built in 1983, probably around May or June. 1983 started with ser#712900 and ended with 724524 as per Oscar Will's book.

Re: Project 1872.. the not working hydro adventure continues

+1 on changing the filter. I had a similar issue on a 1772 that I rebuilt the steering box on. It wouldn't work at all. I ended up taking a hose loose on the ram and worked the steering wheel full left and right a few times and that took care of the issue.

The Cub #921-3018 won't work. Its specs are 1.25" ID x 1.874 OD x 0.25.

The 530484 specs are 1" ID x 1.7813 OD x 0.25

That looks like an 1862 because it has power steering and no hydro release lever on the tunnel cover. It should have the Kohler Mag 18 in it. Looks pretty nice too.
