I haven't been on here much lately, but I did buy it, and have it about 1/2 restored.
Here's the video diary of it.

I used to know a guy in SE Kansas that had at least 300 John Deeres in his yard, he had al least 60 A's and at least 40 B's. I sold him my L because he had a LA and a LI but no L. His yard was a sea of green.

Re: Continuous Thread for all the Posts That Don't Rate a To
Somebody said these danged old tractors will get to breeding on you. I started out in Feb of 2010 with just 1 Cub Cadet, and week later I had another. Last month I bought another one that I need to go get. Last January I got my first David Bradley Walk-Behind, and just this week I bought a 1966 Mass...

Re: 382 and 107 questions
I have one like that on my Troybilt Tiller, had something in the carb that just would not come out. It had a very dirty tank and something broke loose and got stuck in the carb. $180 and a new carb later it was running like new.

I bought the IH-55053-C1 belt for my 129 with QA42A, it seems to be the correct belt.

Re: 382 and 107 questions
I have found most of the carbs for B&S are close to being the same. The carb on my Snapper came from a 12.5 HP and the motor is only a 11.5, didn't do a thing to it, just bolted it up.

It has a 10 HP Tecumseh in it. The carb needs replacing. Somebody has used the choke shaft for the throttle. This one has a 4 speed and a variable speed drive.

I had a job mowing the trailer court here in town and my RER Snapper just wasn't going to handle that for very long. I started looking for a Gravely Model L, decided against that, looked at a Wheel Horse, decided against that, I finally found a piece of crap 129. Just about everything needed fixing....

I think I am ready as well. We don't get a lot of snow here, but the last 2 years we have had enough to keep me home for a day or two. So this year I have the QA42A rebuilt and ready, 2 new belts will be here this week, have all the zerks greased, have 5W30 oil in the motor, 4 gallons of WW fluid in...

The thing I would worry about the veggie oil would be the oil making the rubber swell up. Ever see an oil soaked radiator hose?

Re: 100 drive shaft
What you can do to make it safer is to fill with it an enert gas like argon or co2. Hook a hose to the gas line at the bottom and let it fill the tank so that no oxygen is left inside. I believe CO2 is heavier than oxygen, so leave the tank upright, you may want to partial cover the filler neck to k...

It's a shame too, the old TB's are built like Tanks, when you consider these were 1950's designs and the're still going strong.
A trip to http://www.zucksrototillers.com/ will fill in all the rest of TB's history.

Re: 451 blower shave plate
I used a pump that came with a jug of Tire Slime, remove the valve core, slide the hose over the stem and pump away. I had to stop a few times and let the air out. It took 15 minutes per tire.

I chanced mine when I bought it, and since it was in such poor condition when I bought it, I had planned on changing it again just to make sure it was clean. I didn't see any gel inside this time, I did see some last time. So I should be able to go many years now without a change.

Re: Ooouch!!!!!
It wasn't just Kohler that built good stuff, my David Bradley has a 1952 Model 8 B&S motor that runs like a top. The newer motors just don't last like that any more.
