Re: Cub 70 clutch teaser spring, broke again

Merk, Someone is offering an aftermarket TO bearing? I thought I remembered discussion from long ago that those were a proprietary bearing. There is 1 or 2 aftermarket bearing(s) for sale. They are longer and don't hold up very long. I just rebuilt a clutch for someone using the longer bearing put ...

Are you using a cub cadet or aftermarket throw out bearing?
Does the driveshaft have any wear where the throw out rides?

I do believe I have a fuel shut off , but will check. Not quite sure what you mean Merk by turning off the fuel and letting the tractor run out of gas?
With the fuel valve in the shut off position I will run the engine until the carb is out of fuel.

Re: When to engage PTO on a 782

Does you 782 have a working fuel shut off and you are using it? I have a fuel shut off in all my tractors. I turn the fuel off and leave the tractor run out of gas. The owner's manual says to use fresh gas( less than 30 days old). Gas over 30 days should be replaced with fresh gas. How and where you...

Re: 1872 freshen up burning oil

This is how I break in a newly rebuilt engine: 1. Vary the rpms from 1500 to 3600 rpm for 30 to 45 minutes 2. Change oil and filter (if engine has a filter). 3. Run the engine with a light to medium load on it. My lite load is driving tractor around my property. My medium load is a sled that I will ...

I like to vary the RPMs during break in. It puts different loads on cylinder wall(s).

Re: 1872 freshen up burning oil

Was the engine burning-using when you used conventional oil? How was the cylinder bore check? Was the cylinder bore per Kohler manual (top-middle-bottom-in line with crank-90 degrees of the crank) ? you should have 6 measurements. Do you have a copy of before and after cylinder bore measurements? Ko...

Re: Oil Smoke

The first thing I would do is put a heavy load on the engine. Doing what you been doing with the 70 is a light load. I would vary the rpms from idle to wide open for 45 to 60 minutes while under a heavy load. . Them I would change the oil. I use Kohler brand straight 30 weight dino oil. Is the engin...

Quiet Line driveshaft into a Wide frame

My IH Cub Cadet 149 destroyed the part of the driveshaft that goes into the back of the hub/flywheel. Back in the old registry days I thought I read that a complete driveshaft assembly from a Quiet Line IH Cub Cadet Hydro would work in a Wide Frame Hydro IH Cub Cadet. Has anyone tried this? Is this ...

I grew up on a farm and been around tractors with loaders all my life. First tractor-loader I used was a narrow front Farmall H with a trip bucket loader. I have a K321 and a slightly modified K301 that needs a home. I need the rest of a tractor. Hopefully a" Rick deal " will show up.

I may a chance to buy a power steering off a newer Cub Cadet. Hopefully it will be a easy system to add to my loader tractor.

I've been thinking about finding another hydro wide frame (109-129-149-169) to make into a loader tractor to.

I retired last June so I would have time to work on my IH Cub Cadets. Been working everything else but Cub Cadets.

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild

Thousands of machines were never factory fitted with the item #20 teaser spring spacer. Your also missing the clutch driving disc...

McMaster-Carr calls the 2 piece split collar a 2 piece shaft collar. https://www.mcmaster.com/#shaft-collars/=1azyjmf I don't use a pin through the driveshaft to hold big spring in place. I've been using the 2 piece shaft collar in any clutch I rebuild unless the customer wants a pin. The drilled ho...

Re: New Guy, 108 Rebuild

Good looking 108. Several areas on your clutch to look at: I notice paint on the part of the driveshaft that goes in the bushing in the 3 pin driver. That will cause drag. Did you trued the pressure plates? Is the driveshaft new or an used one? Check the area where the throw out bearing for wear If ...
