Ken, According to factory specs. 3pt or 1.5qt is the correct amount if you are not replacing the oil filter. The best way is to add one quart of oil and start checking the level on the dip stick until you reach the "F" mark. I do agree with Vince you should change the oil filter when changing the oi...

I believe that you have a Homelite made by Ryobi. JD purhcased Homelite and moved it to mexico. Their they manufactured JD branded handheld products for Home Depot. Vince, If you are concerned about using a 44c center pulley on a boxed end 42 deck, it depends on the following. I am not sure, but you may know, if the center blade of the 42" boxed deck is longer than the blades of the 44C. The longer the blade the larger the pulley, because of the required torque...
