Re: Oversized rings? Piston play?

I took some time and mic'd the bore, I think it's not too exotic, I am just going to try to build a fire in it, and make the wheels turn first, then proceed as things develop. Of course, when I got started putting things together from the boxes that were with the tractor, I find I am missing the mai...

Thanks , Charlie. I'll head on over to the old hardware, than heavens that he is still a bulk-bin sort of place, and not all blister packed.

sediment bowl packing ?

Fiddling around since there isn't any snow...the packing around the base of the shutoff screw on all of my junque box sediment bowls is either missing, or crumbling. Any ideas on something to repack it with? O-ring? Pipe dope? I see a lot of the replacement bowls online state "not for use with ethan...

Re: Oversized rings? Piston play?

I figured since the motor is out, I could throw a set of rings at it that might keep the fog bank down a little and have it a bit more usable until I can come across another motor that I can afford. Pretty much just a band-aid to try and squeek a little more life out of it.

Oversized rings? Piston play?

All righty then. I finally got a bit of time to spend on the K301 that came along with the 123 we brought home. Everything seems good down low, but, at the top of the stroke, there seems to be quite a bit of play side to side in the piston-cylinder clearances. The motor is bored .030" over already. ...

Re: First "followed me home" in a while...

Update: Took a look at things a little closer. The motor is already .030" over, and there is a lot of wear at the top of the bore. I have all the parts, but not sure if it's worth the effort to re-install it only to have it be a ratter. Years ago you could buy oversized rings that would make for a q...

First "followed me home" in a while...

Junior pulled in the other night with this 123. 3PT. (less the lower bracket), spring assist, the hydro is supposed to be great with little to no creep, the trunion is pretty darn tight. Motor is out because the PO said it had bad compression, and he didn't want to bore it. Maybe the crack in the he...

Bill, The money thing is beating everyone. I like to horsetrade stuff, and even that is really slow, parts that used to bring $200 bring half that, if they sell at all. There just isn't the extra hobby money around for anyone, not just us retired guys. I sold my bike and my big Dodge, and bought a l...

Re: 382 (mostly) questions...carb? ignition?

Update, I tore the carb back down and put it into the solvent can for a couple of days. Had to use an EZ-Out to get the buggered up main jet out, and put in the new one. Buttoned it all back up, and it seems to have done the trick. I understand these FloJets are really touchy about dirt in the littl...

Re: 382 and 107 questions

I still think its carburetion issues, although maybe it's the magneto. I replced the needle and seat, because the Viton tip was grooved. Reset the float, all correct. pulled the carb back off and looked closer, at some time someone tried to pull the main jet and stripped the screwdriver slot. Any tr...

Nope, carb is the "Large" flojet, tank is separate. 252707 model, 10/11HP series. Gotta be something simple. If I can track doen my old flywheel knocker, I will give the ignition a looking at.

Re: 382 and 107 questions

Sooo...hitting the wall with the 382. Rebuilt the carb, swapped oil, flushed fuel tank, cleaned mouse world out from under the covers. Still running lousy. Acts like it's loading up on fuel, but then pops and farts through exhaust and carb as well, then runs fine for 3-4 minutes, until it starts to ...

Re: 382 and 107 questions

Thanks for those PN's. I got the 107 linkage freed up, simply lifted the rear of the Cub on the hoist, and took a long bar and a BFH. Gave it a littled tap to see if there was anything moving at all and the doggone thing started to free up. Funny that it dodn't move with a LOT of force on the handle...

382 (mostly) questions...carb? ignition?

So today Junior and his buddy drag in a 382 and a 107 they collected. The 382 runs and drives, but has some serious carb issues...dropped the bowl, NO gasket, and when I pulled the carb, no gasket on the manifold and the rubber boot from the crank breather vent was rotten. My question for the 382, a...

Hope this finds everyone well. While I regularly lurk from time to tme, I haven't been too involved with tractors due to a lot of changes here on the home front. Plow springs, oh joy.

Since the plow face on the Ol' Dawg's 42 incher has seen much better days, I went into the back room and dragged up a really nice plow that, unfortunately, had been cobbled up by a PO in an effort to make it fit an ATV or something. The blade itself is really nice, so I popped the springs and pivot ...

Getting socked here tonight in WNY. No where near as bad as Buffalo's 2-3 feet but we should have a foot or more by tomorrow so they say, and the weekend is looking to be a bear as well. Black ice and drifting here, winds 15-25MPH keeping the N-S highways bad.

Engine swap info?

I have a chance to pick up a 982 with an Onan that has followed its destiny into oblivion...the tractor is pretty nice. I am wondering if it would be worth the effort to swap the Mag18 out of my fully functional daily machine, an 1862, in order to move into the SGT realm. I love the power steering o...

Ray, the arm is 23" long, the slot is 3 1/2". There is a slight upward bend that doesn't show in the picture very well. I have been running narrow tri-ribs on my 123 for several years and have found them to outperform anything else I have tried, including 8" ag tires. Thanks, Scott. I have seen the side mounted mowers, but this one just stuck me as being handy as heck for doing trails or things like that. Plus the tractor is pretty cute as well. I am amazed at some of the implements folks came up with for these little workhorses.
