Re: Coolspring engine show

Hi Charlie, yes sir I am talking about the June show. Sorry that I did not state that more clearly. Since I'm planning staying on for the duration I'd like to meet up with any members from our group that are there. Folks, please chime in if you are, the time is now. If possible I'd like for you to P...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

It's an entery level receiver same as mine but if you were a 12 year old kid with one back in the day you were the envy of the neighborhood! I happen to have the factory owners manual for it. DSCN1842.JPG One of their marketing ploys aimed at the newbie starting off was to say tune in Casto and list...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

Now this is pretty cool. The executors of the estate where that S-119 came from were going through a bunch of stuff and turned up the factory owners and service manual. Rather than tossing it or placing it to auction they sent it directly to me without so much as letting me know about it first, they...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

Thanks Dave. Yes, I'm partial to Hallicrafters in the same way others find themselves partial to International Harvester. It all depends on what you like. This one responded to a full electrical restoration very well. It can receive single side band however without a band spread control that can bec...

Oh jees, not another one. So some considered this thing a toy, well it's no toy. s-l1604.jpg Produced from 1960 to 1964 the Sky Buddy II had an extremely limited production run. As in think thin axle O. Sold in operational assembled condition or as a kit, designation model S-119 was a very attractiv...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

I figured that I best get my rear off the couch yesterday and tidy things up before the big freeze rolled in. I went for a short one mile only walk today because it was not very enjoyable. DSCN1776.JPG Part of cleaning up meant starting the truck and moving it out of the way. It had not been run in ...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Tom, much of that saga is over. After fifteen years of fighting back against the excess water run off and with the neighbor saying oh there's a pipe there to take of that, someone bothered checking to see if it was actually doing anything. Well guess what. DSCN1512.JPG DSCN1513.JPG I don't know what...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Happy 2024 and here we go again! This is our first real storm of the Winter, we did have a good snow just prior to Thanksgiving but it really did not stick around for long with rising temperatures shortly thereafter. This one will be sticking around. The weather forecast called for light powder but ...

Pretty sure I got everything I need right here :) DSCN1716.JPG DSCN1719.JPG DSCN1721.JPG But I would not mind having that Fisher 800B though. Used to have an 800C. Trouble with them is they can turn into money pits big time real quick. A quad set of those 7591's can hit 600 bucks if you can find the...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

Have received a report that my S-76 is complete, nicely burned in, and re aligned. Sounds like he played it all weekend long. Some before and after images were attached along with his invoice and I'd thought it nice to just be able to compare side by side. Chassis tear down before cleaned. IMG_01 2....

Re: Ham and CB chatter

Several weeks ago I sent my S-76 out for a full electro mechanical restoration. Reports indicate that good progress is being made. I opted out from doing a full cosmetic restoration so it will never again look brand new as the one pictured above. My decision to go that way was based on the fact that...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

There was time today to put the 43 through it's paces and it performed very well. That one is a keeper. DSCN1658.JPG Because the audio output is either 500 or 5000 ohm based a matching transformer had to be installed between a standard speaker and the output side. This little matching transformer in...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

I have been receiving steady progress reports regarding the restoration of this radio. Things are looking good. As with anything over 75 years old there was a lot of undiscovered hanky panky going on inside. All of those issues are being addressed with everything being returned to factory specificat...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

After examining this rig carefully I reached the conclusion that many of the issues I had discovered at hand were beyond my limited abilities. It is pretty clear to even me that over the years there were several crude attempts made at getting it working again all of which continued to take things in...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

It does not make a lot of sense to me even with my limitations. Without an in line dropping resistor the voltages would be running jacked up inside all over. Such was never the intended design. Good used or new old stock 5Y3 rectifier tubes can still be had on eBay, it's not like they are impossible...

Re: Ham and CB chatter

This SX- 43 is a work in progress. Produced in 1947. DSCN1481.JPG What would make this unit desirable is it was one of the very first receivers to offer FM reception from 85 to 110 Mhz. In those days the standard 88 to 108 band spread had not even been officially set in place. Someone fooled around ...

Another Kohler engine

My Son came home with this yesterday after a four hour drive down to NY. We don't know much about it other than it was supposedly a backup unit for the Germantown, NY telephone company. Hi Joe, hey thank you for asking. We are towing the line here all right with some damage to the driveway but it's still very passable. Re: The Official Weather Thread!

Six inches of rain in 24 hours with another three just a few days before is hardly normal. We were just lucky, that's all, surrounding towns became islands. I have seen the Connecticut river this high only a couple of times before. DSCN1113.JPG DSCN1114.JPG It's rather rare to see the flood gates op...

Re: The Official Weather Thread!

Back in the end of May we had a hard frost that wiped out any chance of an apple crop along with who knows what else this year. That was followed by four weeks of no rain. Then we wound up with three weeks of bad air due to the Canadian wild fires. Then nearly one week of excessive heat in the 90+ d...

I see no point in conducting experiments using a perfectly good deck. They don't make these things any more. I did however place a hydraulic jack along with some sturdy wooden blocks directly inside of the discharge chute to maximize the opening. DSCN0997.JPG Regarding tools and the usage of tools a...

Re: Mower deck baffle

I need to get myself over to Tractor Supply and pick up 3 four foot  strips of 1/8" x 1 1/2" C.R.S. This project is not at the top of my list, the 38" refurbished deck with those shortened up 42" blades on the 128 is doing a great job. And all the bending sizes that I need will come directly from of...

Thank you Chuck, I'll keep that under consideration. I think I've got all I need for now. And I'm leaning toward making the baffle from three sections at this point. My first step was to get the shell media blasted. Coal slag was used. DSCN0987.JPG I'm pleased with the outcome. One bag was used. It ...

So today the Wife and I made the two mile drive to go have a look see for ourselves.
