Re: Cub Cadet 2284 wont stay running and running out of options.
Something I rarely see mentioned but can happen is those fuel pumps have two tappets in them and they can pop loose. I once swapped a whole engine just to have it not fix the issues because I used the same fuel pump. In my case, it was a 782 and it ran great for 15 minutes, sometimes longer then los...

Re: 2084 SGT
Before you get too far along here have you done a compression check on that engine? If it just died but restarted the low oil may have just been something you noticed and not the cause. May have blown a head gasket under load and died or something. It'll run on one cylinder and sometimes they'll eve...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Sounds like it all worked out in the end and it runs. Mission accomplished! Thanks for the update
As for pictures, should be as simple as using the "add attachment" tab when posting but I'm getting a few years out of date on current technology after spending years keeping up with it closely.

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
There shouldn't be a safety on the hydro lever unless possibly it's one of those late MTD ones. There was some sort of little metal safety prong thing added at some point but i won't pretend to be well versed with what it was or did. It could be possible your linkage under the tunnel cover is rubbin...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
At this point without seeing what you have in person or detailed pics, I'm not sure what else anyone can know for it. It's not all original so it could be any kind of system. I'm still a believer it's wiring with a somewhat strong possibility it could be the wrong switch. It's only a 5 position swit...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
I'm honestly not terribly familiar with that engine but I'd be skeptical two magnetos went bad simultaneously. I personally didn't even know that engine had two so not the expert there. I'd be ruling out any and all wiring and electrical possibilities first. You can probably even Ohm test the magnet...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
If the old one still worked and it hasn't started since you replaced it, I'd definitely put it back in and see what happens. Its been quite a few years since I messed with a Command, but it probably doesn't take the same switch as the tractors you listed (which had KT17s or Onans with coils on the 9...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Your engine issue must still be in my head because I just had a thought. That's not the original engine and you recently replaced the ignition switch. Has it ran since then? There's a lot of switches that look identical but aren't. Your engine might require a different one and be as simple as you pu...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Sounds like everyone else has you covered. There are no points because it's not the original KT17 engine in there. You have a magneto in there instead as Tom mentioned and probably bad if no spark. As far as engine removal, pretty straight forward if it's still mostly original. 4 bolts up under the ...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
Can you elaborate a bit to help us out? With a frozen cable i assumed it sat a while. When's the last time it was running great? Reason I ask is if it's been setting the fuel pumps lose prime and needs to cycle a while to pump up. Also old stale gas could be sitting in that carb regardless of what's...

Re: 782 Choke Knob & Cable Problem
The only adjustment is the clamp that holds it at the carburetor. I'd take that clamp completely off (1/4" socket i think). After the cable is off the carburetor make sure the choke on the carb isn't frozen and try to pull the choke knob while it's off the carburetor. If the cable still won't move i...

Re: New Owners
There's always going to be those custom to certain model parts that'll be no longer available but I think of it this way. There were many parts not available at all years ago (ie an 800 starter, 1100 carburetor, etc) well before Stanley owned them. They are 50 years old and we have more parts availa...

Re: New Owners
I'm not too worried short term. As with anything if there's sufficient market to make money they'll make it. Regardless who owns the name, most parts are manufactured third party anyway. That and Kohler and Cub Cadet both have a plentiful supply of aftermarket and custom parts. Plus so many parts tr...

Re: Cadet 60 blade manual
Almost there. Used the brackets I made for the frame and turned down a quick bushing to locate the holes in the fiberglass. I'd make a couple minor mods if I made more but everything went together great. I'm half done with the lift rods and have to get those right and I'll be done. Almost ready to m...

Thanks Lew! A member sent me pictures of his manual. It isn't a print off or original in hand but certainly got me where I need to be and one attachment you really need the info from the manual. Cadet 60 blade manual
Does anyone have a manual or link to one for the Cadet 60 rer model 10 blade? I was fortunate enough to get one but hooking it up isn't painfully obvious. It's only missing the lift rods and one small bracket. It isn't in the downloads.

Re: 129 =Time for a new Engine
That's one heck of a deal then on an engine in my opinion if done right and I imagine they are. Another quick option having someone that knows the Kohlers so well is let him bore yours out a little and tweak it for the extra hp you wanted without having to change to a bigger engine and source a flyw...

Re: 129 =Time for a new Engine
Interesting site I bookmarked on kohler replacements. Shipping might cost you a bit and I didn't read if they use OEM parts or not but I personally find that price great. Those engines lasted 40+ years so a correctly redone one should be the last time you worry about it. Doing it yourself probably w...

I'm not familiar with that tractor but if the starter is good, ground good, and voltage, have you ruled out actual resistance from the engine? Something like frozen alternator bearing or clutch or something dragging? Again, I'm not familiar with this model, just another thought.

Neat to know. That was an Internet picture. I didn't know it had a cover until I saw that. This is mine with a nicer than iphone photo for better reference. Re: IH 3340 push mower
Guess I can't complain with my wife. I had a new one and we saw an old self propelled lawn boy with bag on the side of the road on the way home from work once. I got it running and it was "her" mower ever since. She loves it and we sold the new one. She goes through a few gallons of 2 cycle gas year...

IH 3340 push mower
Kind of off topic but I have one of these without the white top cover. Does anyone have one of these they can get good dimensions from? I work at a thermoform shop and can 3D model a mold and run some. Or even if someone had one they could send and I pay shipping both ways maybe? Then I could get th...

Re: Best use for a 147?
I agree on not using a loader on it. Not only do you not have power steering, the lifting capabilities are limited and the narrow frame front axle spindles were upgraded after the narrow frames for a reason. As for the blower, yes it's a lot of weight for a manual lift. The 147 will have that chrome...

I can't help on the blade brackets but can say nice find  I've been keeping an eye out for years for one of those or a C32 blower for my 60. I redid a 60 years ago and kept it. Still a hit with kids at parties and they can't hurt themselves easily because it stops if they let off the pedals. J...

Re: Best use for a 147?
First welcome! Second it might have had external brakes but not turning brakes unless someone added them. Some cubs had internal, some external. IH went back and forth over the years. The 147 should have electric lift factory. If it's working its great for a plow and mower deck is nice too because i...

Given the gross exaggerating of weathermen I haven't even hooked up the blade the last 3 years when they called for snow. I use what matches my cubs because that's what pulls them plus it's very close if not the exact color. Almond Rustoleum is a great IH off white substitute on the cheap. I use Van Sickle IH off white from Orcheln but not everyone has one of those. Van Sickle lasts much better in the can, sprays bette...

I've knowingly bought some cheap gaskets on mowers that get minimal use and they come in clear unmarked bags. The oem ones come clearly marked as you said. Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase
That's a darn nice 782 and I would say worth the money... but i don't believe it's 1979. It's MTD built so 81 and later. Oddly has IH hubcaps and Mtd mowers shouldn't have a series 1 if I remember right. Seems like a not all original but nice restoration.
