Double check that the pulleys are good and that you have the correct tensioner spring. Then with the belt on look down from the top at the actual alignment of the belt. The tensioner arm likes to twist and throw the belt tracking off.

Re: 451 blower on a 2182 cub cadet
Ken, Please post the serial numbers of your tractors, that will be on the tag on the side of the tunnel by your left foot. From those it is easy to tell which PTO and blower you need. The 1541 could have come with either. The serial number break is at 821,101. Below that you run the 450 blower, abov...

Re: 451 - 551 initial thoughts on using both.
Silicone works but the graphite paint tends to last a bit longer. Currently the 551 is down as I work on the belt drive. Started throwing the belt off. The idlers were pretty beat up when I got it, guess I need to do a bit more work on them as they still bounce pretty good when in use. Also need to ...

Re: Yard Hydrant Packing ???
In any of the ones I deal with I use common graphite string packing. Apply silicone grease tighten the packing. They get used quite a bit to wash off the fire trucks. Usually I tighten the packing maybe once a year. Most go 3-4 years without being repacked.

Re: 451 - 551 initial thoughts on using both.
In my area a "normal" storm will dump around 4-6 inches. If you get into it before the sun or salt get a lot of water in it you are usually OK. We have had 12-24" storms a few times. Those can be a pain, but I've blown snow twice the height of the blower without much problem. The packing issue is a ...

451 - 551 initial thoughts on using both.
So I finally got to try out the 551 on the 1863. Last year the same tractor wore a 451. The 551 is MUCH lighter overall than the 451, It steers almost as good as it does with the mower deck. The 451 follows terrain while the 551 doesn't. This is due to the mounting differences on the lower lift sect...

Charlie, Yeah millings are ground up road surface, HARD to get in my area because the milling crews have them sold off before they even start the machine. A few years ago I managed to get 6 loads for our fire departments parking lot. "borrowed" the towns grader and roller to get them down. I know th...

Ken, Yep that sounds like the same stuff I use. Wetted down and packed it acts almost like concrete but doesn't look like it on the surface. I used it here on a couple areas because the assessor actually informed me the "a gravel pad under a mobile structure (shed) doesn't fall under a taxable listi...

Ken, is sure pack crusher run and portland cement? I've made mixes like that for driveway pads and such, A couple of the local haulers will bring it now as well. I love the stuff. You can work it likr gravel but once it gets wetted down and backed it locks together and the cement bonds it so it does...

Re: Hydro linkage
Copper colored = furnace brazed. Most likely the end where the pin goes is hot forged and punched for the hole, which leaves a hole with a slight taper from the punch. Then a dab of brazing flux and insert the pin, heat to flow the braze and done. Fast and easy. Same thing in a home shop - take flux...

NOT ME.... Started getting the new super apart and did get the 551 onto the 1863 for testing. Cab is still waiting though. Then caught a stomach bug that kept me close to the reading room and got over that and got the flu.... Hoping to get into the shop in the AM and get things together.

There was a 1340, One year tractor. I've only seen a couple. Those had a single 12.5 Kohler on them. Became the 1440.
Easy way to find out. Look on the silver plate on the left side of the tunnel and post the number on the top row that ends -100

I have rewired and replaced those dam% connectors and switches so many times I don't any longer. I buy a new switch, then wrap and solder on new wires that have the correct wire colors. Then a dab of liquid electrical tape and self sealing shrink wrap. I go about 10 inches from the switch and instal...

I try to use the largest filter that will work and not get damaged. I've mangled a few under the 1863 when using it "in a spirited manner". I figure the larger the filter the more filter media and capacity for crud without it starving the system. Be careful if you use that rig on hills, it should ha...

Those are a great tractor really. You didn't stray either. Case/IH had their name on them for a time. They are a great base for a loader tractor with the on board hydraulics and hydraulic drive.

Thanks Tom, I hadn't even thought to look at the book on that hydro. I may weld it up and install the stiffer spring (I have some on the shelf !) Then just get used to it as I won't have a frame of reference for the OEM spring anyway. Started adjusting the brakes, as it was they almost worked...

OK so the springs are supposed to absorb the motion of the linkage and act like a shock absorber? Wonder what a urethane replacement would do.

Re: Trunion discussion again......................
That's the thing, the newer tractors use a solid connection and they are not jerky. Maybe the internal valving is different ? That's about what I figured, I'll have to play with different springs to get it the way I want it to work.
