Re: IH 782 refurb

This is what I used on the 982 I recently got to replace the worn and broken-up
original foot mats.
After cutting to size they are still about 1" short, but for a worker I was OK with that.
Harbor Freight Rubber Safety Mat 12" x 12" ~$6.
On their site search for self adhesive.

Re: Cub Cadet 106 Restoration in Great Britain

I have read some people have quite specific opinions on what a restoration is or isnt
I agree with you on that.
That's why I just "refurbish" the ones I've had. I've never even completely repainted one.

Sounds like it may be starving for air.
With the air cleaner cover off check the air intake tube from the blower housing
since this is its main source of air intake.

There was a track attachment made by an outside company to convert a Cub Cadet to a crawler.
I think it was called Tractor Trax.
BTW... these are not mine.

I know I said I had to look for the hydraulic leak but, it's just been to hot in the shop to get that involved, so I cleaned, sanded & painted the front rims. I used Gloss Aluminum rust inhibitor paint from Ace Hardware. Then I cut and added the short extensions to the exhaust pipes. They direct the...

Re: Back at it.

Removed the front PTO yesterday for cleaning and adjusting. That is where the squeal I was hearing was coming from when the engine was running at low speeds. It was pretty rusted up inside. I may just leave it off since I'll never use this tractor to cut grass. Sure makes the engine sound better. If...

I found a wire that was questionable at one of the connectors on the AC side of the rectifier. Soldered a new one on and it seems to have fixed the problem. Also taped up bite marks on the 6 ga. starter cable that was showing bare wire along the frame. Certainly hope this is all the troubles for a w...

I held off rebuilding the carb at this time. Installed the fuel cut-off valve, drained the crankcase, replaced oil & filter. Tried starting... no go. The starter tries to turn the engine over but stops short. Then I noticed the negative battery terminal was heating up... a lot. Disconnected the batt...

The carb kit came in today and I got new oil and filter. carb kit.jpg I'll start over removing the engine tin needed to get to the intake manifold and carb. Rewiring completed. Apparently nothing other than the B+ lead was damaged. Carb and throttle adjustments are done and it's running very well. The Onan sounds great with no smoke, knocks or anything unusual except for an occasional squeal which I think is coming from the front PTO. It definitely need...

Been working on the 982 a little at a time. After new points and condenser I got it to fire and run for short spurts only. Time to look into the carb. May be a while before I can post pics of it. I got it home Monday and was able to then give it a good inspection. It had been neglected in a back yard for some time 7-8 years I suspect (if not longer). Some small animal had set up residence behind the engine and had an appetite for the insulation on...
