This is what I used on the 982 I recently got to replace the worn and broken-up
original foot mats.
After cutting to size they are still about 1" short, but for a worker I was OK with that.
Harbor Freight Rubber Safety Mat 12" x 12" ~$6.
On their site search for self adhesive.

Sounds like it may be starving for air.
With the air cleaner cover off check the air intake tube from the blower housing
since this is its main source of air intake.

I found a wire that was questionable at one of the connectors on the AC side of the rectifier. Soldered a new one on and it seems to have fixed the problem.
