Re: 450, 451 and 551 Snowblower Application Notes...

Have you measured the pto? It should be 6” for the 48/54 decks. I’m sure a complete pto can be bought new or just a used pulley for one of the parts guys

Re: 450, 451 and 551 Snowblower Application Notes...

Do you use the 1882 for any other attachments? Mostly the mower deck? If not just swap out the PTO to 6” and don’t look back.

I swapped over my 1882 years ago and run a 54” deck when I’m out of cheep “fix and flip” cubs. I like the way it cuts and seams to have good power for blowing leaves.

Pull the rear cover!
The back plate will need to come off and then the rear cover is held on with 9 bolts. Behind that cover is the 2 gallons of oil. I would use a can of brake cleaner to get as much of the nasty white goop off the side walls as you can!

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Never good when ken gets it! I’m only a week or two behind. We did get a dusting of snow/sleet Saturday but rain mostly and it was gone almost as fast as it fell. I pulled the bagger off the 682 today. I did sell a 127 all set up with a plow, I have a 129 ready to go as well. Per the norm here, the ...

Paul looking good! I’ve used both MMO and sea foam, sea foam fixed a water in gas issue years ago on a daily driver. Of corse, the catalytic converter went too.... lucky for me GM had a recall and even with 107xxx on the clock they paid for the new one. For your issue I would try the MMO, I would us...

An 1864 should have a vent on the top of the rear casting. If not it’s a great time to add one! Even so go slow so you don’t make a mess!

Re: Steering whines

I would do the full fluid swap like Tom said I would use the tractor a bit. Run the lift up/down drive in circles front/back maybe even more then the 15 minutes. I would say an hour or two. I agree with Tom and only use the wix/Napa 1410 filter. The hydros use about 2 gallons of oil each. A gear dri...

Dave. Thanks for the first real reply on this topic! I posted it on 3 pages. I ended up leaving the “smart charger” on the battery for 2 days before it read fully charged. In the past few months I have gone out every few weeks and started the generator for a test cycle. (I’m due again) it’s alaways ...

I’m not sure what model you have, but most use the rear end as a reservoir. There most likely a dipstick to check the full level.

What model Is it from? At that price it should be correct and have the correct rockshaft bracket as well. However location does play a part!

Tim
Does your tractor have the front outlets and a “extra” hydro lever? Most I’ve seen do not. Without the front ports, you would need to get off the seat to angle the plow. A super plow would not go on a 1864 without major work.

Re: Snow blade

I’m going to say no it won’t work. Like tom said the axle is a different height. So much so that the Plow/axle would hit. It’s worth trying though and if need be, just lower the front the rears are the same.

I tried once, it wasn’t working, the bolts for the extension hit the qa mechanism on the frame. I gave up and found the right sub-frame.

Sad to say, but if the belt doesn’t fix it, it’s a parts tractor. The rears in those are not servcable. I have one here (1610) with similar issues. I’ll save the seat, hood ornament, the Briggs is good, so it will hit craigslist for 50-100$ and the deck spindles. The rest will be crushed to make 5 m...

Have you done the up-grade to remove the glow plugs from the key switch? You would need to add a solenoid.
New glow plugs?
Gear reduction starter?
Updated grounding?

I’ve never done it, but I’m told the bearings can be changed out by opening up the sheet metal cover and popping out the old and installing new. Punch the tin back around the new bearing. MTD wants you to replace the entire pto pulley at least. Sorry I don’t have a part number.

Just the orange on the key switch to the orange with black on the solenoid, pedal locked down do you have continuity? If not try putting a temp jumper across the clutch pedal switch. If it cranks over fix the switch! Don’t leave jumpers across safety circuits !

Your sure it’s a magnum? The 1710/1711 should ha e a KT17 from the factory. Does it have a coil/points? Or a solid state armature that you can’t see? Spin on oil filter?

As for starting check the orange wires from the key switch to the soloniod, one should have a black Tracer. Make sure with the pedal...
