Re: Restoring my Danco RD1000 loader...

Jude - Great job! Keith - Sometimes better to ask forgiveness than permission. Reasons to just get the correct tractor for the loader you bought: 1) Unless you don't need a tractor for anything else, changing attachments is a pain in the rear. Loader tractors are most easily left set-up as loader de...

Karen - Welcome to the forum. I would start by installing a new thermostat. Many engines will not circulate the coolant properly without the back-pressure that the thermostat provides. I would guess that it started overheating which is what prompted your son to remove the thermostat. Your original t...

Re: Supers look cool...

Eric - The model is real important. Early tractors (GT and SGTs) had a 4.6" outer diameter (OD) front pto pulley. Later tractors (Ser. No. 821,060 and after) had a 6" diameter front pto pulley. This change and serial number occurred several years into the Cyclops series. Although this was a design i...

Vince - I think he is referring to the lift height indicator cable. Brad - If so, it wraps around the front of the rockshaft tube and is bolted to the arm underneath. The rockshaft acts as a drum and pulls the cable as the rockshaft rotates. Look at the picture on the parts sites: http://www.partstr...

Steve - Congrats on increasing the herd! Too bad that you have to pull the engine to get to the starter. But...perhaps it is the botched ignition switch not sending the juice when it should. I would definitely get the electrics squared away before deciding the starter was at fault. Also, especially ...

Sean - Same idea, but different. Spark plugs are best set with a wire gauge set. You need a set of flat feeler gauges, like this: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00999008000P?prdNo=9&blockNo=9&blockType=G9 They are also sold with a bent tip for better clearance for some jobs (like valve las...

When I did my Cat 0 I decided to use what Jim mentioned. Since these bolts tend to need retorquing, I decided I wanted a sealer that stays pliable. Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket is what is used for engines with bolts that have holes threaded into areas exposed to oil, so that is what I used. You c...

Got mine fixed today. Started my troubleshooting at the relay; had power to the coil side that holds the relay in, so that means the seat switch was not the culprit. Phillip - Just like any other electrical problem, it is best to get a voltmeter and work through the schematic. The schematic in the manual shows you what should be hot while the pto is engaged. Also, the early 50" decks did not have a grease fitting for the deck idler pulley arm, and it can lock up. The idler arm must be able to move properly to maintain the spindle belt tension. Good to check this out and disassemble while you are there. Mine had severely worn the shoulder bolt due to lac...

If the fuse blew, it is for a reason. Do not put a larger fuse than the factory specified. The fuse is designed to be the weak spot in the system; if you make it larger, the wires will become the "fuse" and melt when you have a problem. Use a meter; work through the connections...you will feel good ...

Re: Steering column upper bearing??

Sounds like you have the wrong bearing for your column. In general, bearings should fit snug (light press fit) enough on the inner and outer diameters so that they will not slip during operation. Loctite sleeve and bearing retainer can be used for slightly loose (considered a slip fit), but not some...

Mike - Just an opinion here, but I would just pull the engine. You will do a neater job and not bend up the tin. You will have the opportunity to clean things up and make them right. James - I prefer RV antifreeze, as it is non-toxic. With RV antifreeze, do not dilute it with water; it is already at the correct mix when you buy it. They advertise RV as "-50* F", but starts to turn to slush way before that. If you dilute it, you will not have enough protection. I know that a 26x1...
