Re: Dozer turning brakes
Pat, if I understand what you're asking about the track frame, I'll just basically build a frame and set the Cub Cadet on top of it. It will be secured at the outer end of each axle housing and in the front where the original axle was. There will be a roller chain drive from the small sprocket on th...

Re: Dozer turning brakes
I guess I should do a better job of explaining how this will work. The smaller outer sprocket on each axle will drive a lower sprocket with a 2 to 1 reduction that will drive the tracks. You can see the setup in the bottom picture. The larger sprocket on each axle will drive a sprocket with a 4 to 1...

Re: Dozer turning brakes
Thanks for the input guys, but it will work. The Magnatrac uses a Peerless transmission with a differential and a 4 inch drum with an external band brake. I've used it without any problems for over 10 years. It's not something you'd want to do a lot of turning in your yard because it will tear up th...

Dozer turning brakes
I'm in the process of "trying" to build a Cub Cadet dozer. I'm patterning it after my Magnatrac MT 2000. The Magnatrac uses external drum/band brakes for turning. I'd like to use Cub Cadet disk brakes instead, but all my Cub Cadets but one have internal brake rear ends. Here's what I have so far: lo...

Re: tricycle front axle
Carson, Cub Cadet didn't make a tricycle front end. Those are all custom made. If you look here http://www.cubcadetman.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48:building-mini-h&catid=35:special-projects&Itemid=55 , you can see how I did mine. I think most of them are along the same...

Penetrating Oils
Did anyone else see the article in “The Best of Farm Show” about penetrating oils? The article said that Machinist’s Workshop “scientifically rusted” a bunch of nuts and bolts and tested different penetrating oils to see which worked the best to loosen the nuts. From the magazine, the results look l...

Re: Red Cub Cadet 982 Stories
Here's a picture of what I did. I don't know what the jack shaft came off, but it works really well for this application. It's on my model 123.
I've used it several years without any problems. I just used a couple cheap belts from the local farm store.

Re: WAY off topic Struck Dozer
Thanks for the good explanation, Steve. My neighbor says the frame isn't rigid enough to keep the belts in alignment, but I'm guessing he's just using old worn out belts on his. I've never seen one with all belts sell, but that's a very reasonable price compared to what I've seen Struck dozers sell ...

Re: WAY off topic Struck Dozer
Steve, can you or anyone tell me if that's one of the Struck's that were all belt drive? I've never seen it, but my neighbor has one that he says you can't keep the belts on. He says it throws belts continually. I've offered to work on it for him (or even buy it) but he's not interested in either. I...

Re: CC 100 clutch problems
David, I assume you checked while you had it apart, but make sure your driveshaft isn't too worn as well. A worn driveshaft will cause the throwout bearing to hang and cause slippage as well.

Re: "Tiger Cub"
Jeff, as I understand the story, when IH first introduced the hydrostat (123) they painted up several Cub Cadets as "tigers" and did jumps and stuff at county fairs to prove how durable they were. As far as I know, none of those are still around, but there are several pictures. My friend used the pi...

"Tiger Cub"
I stopped by to see a buddy's "Tiger Cub" a couple of weeks ago. I've been too busy to post a picture. He did a really good job on it. He found the 123 upside down in a dump. It doesn't have the correct seat or steering wheel, but still looks great.

Re: 2182 for a 154 lo boy
Matt, I can't tell you how the 154 compares to a SGT, but I can tell you they don't have a lot of power. We used to mow our yard with two LoBoys. You have to keep the grass mowed short. In the spring with a lot of rain I'd sometimes have to take only about a third of a cut or the motor would bog dow...

Re: Mini-New Holland Rake
Brendan, it did a fairly good job. The problem was when the windrow got too large it would wrap the grass all the way around. On your rakes you'll notice there's some bars that wrap around the "basket" to prevent this. I never got around to installing them on the mini-rake -- especially after I got ...

Re: NF pto removel
Larry, you need a gage that determines how much you tighten the bolts to get the right "depth" on the spring. I don't have the dimensions of the gage, but I'm sure someone will post them for you. If you buy the rebuild kit that includes the disk and a new spring, I'm pretty sure you'll get a gage wi...

Mini-560
We went to a tractor show in Philpot, KY on Saturday. Got to see a lot of familiar faces. We took the Mini-H and Mini-560. There was a 560 there with only 14.3 hours on it. lores left front.jpg Maybe some of you have seen it at other shows, but it was a first for me. The guy said he bought it from a...

I built a 1/3 scale New Holland rake several years ago to rake our yard with my original. lores left_rear.jpg Recently someone emailed me asking me for information about building one. I searched and found some information and posted an article on my website, http://www.cubcadetman.com/content/index....
