Re: front pto set screw removal
Thanks, Vince. I write that stuff up so I don't forget all the small stuff. With age it's harder and harder to remember. It seems like whenever I forget a step and take a shortcut, it just doesn't work out. I usually go back and reread it myself before removing another PTO.

Robert, here's the procedure that I use. Hopefully they have rounded off yet, but I cover that as well.

Re: Electric Lift
I don't have a separate picture of the electric lift arm, but here's the pictures of the 3 of them. The one on the left is for an original, the one in the center if for the hydraulic lift and the one on the right is for an electric lift. I don't know if they're all welded for the electric lift, but ...

Model 750 Groundsaw
A gentlemen, Dan, ran across my Cub Cadet website and saw the pictures of my groundsaw. He contacted me about one he owns. He has a Model 750 which is completely self contained. It is powered by a 6 ½ hp Kohler and uses a winch to provide the forward motion. It’s a really neat outfit. lores Right Si...

Howard, it sounds like the points for the battery cutout in the voltage regulator may be stuck. Here's the link to an article I wrote to help me figure out a voltage regulator. http://www.cubcadetman.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46:checking-a-mechanical-voltage-regulator&...

Re: PTO CLUTCH TIPS?
Michael, if you adjust it too tight it can cause all kinds of things to rub -- most probably the spring rubbing the bearing or the end of the crankshaft. Make sure you have the proper clearance with the clutch engaged. You might just try loosening the linkage and see if the squealing stops. That wou...

Welcome, Rob. I grew up right down the river from you in Elizabeth, IN. There's a pretty nice tractor show in July in Brandenburg, KY you should attend. I usually don't bring anything to that show, but there is a Cub Cadet collector that shows up every year. Again, welcome.

125 Hydrostat Problems
There’s a young guy named Sam Hornbeck who is working with his Uncle to restore a Cub Cadet 125. You may have read about Sam in LAGT magazine. Anyway, I got to know them when they asked a friend and me for some advice about the restoration. They’ve done a really fine job on the restoration, but when...

Good eye, Ben. That's a Kubota B6100 front end that I'm trying to get going under the front end of an Original. I bought it as a project and almost have it going. Jim, I try to document all my projects as I go along. It's amazing how much I forget if I don't do that. You should be able to find all t...

Re: LAGT Extravaganza
The LAGT Extravaganza was a huge success. They had a goal of 500 lawn and garden tractors and 475 showed up. There was a bunch of “standard” Cub Cadets there as well as a bunch of customized. In addition to an assortment of JD’s, WH’s , etc. there were several lesser known models such as Hahn and Ma...

I'll be at the LAGT (Lawn and Garden Tractor) Extravaganza in Evansville, IN this weekend. If anyone here attends, please stop by our tent and say hello. Re: Diesel repower?
Curt, I have my loader on a Model 73. Until I installed a creeper I had to slip the clutch a lot when loading packed gravel. Since I put the creeper on it, I've had no problems at all with power. And, I like the slower speed. Without the creeper it moved too fast to do a good job leveling the bucket...

Thanks for the compliments, Shawn. I think my email from that site is not working right now, but my computer science sons are working on it. Re: Hawk-Bilt Ground Saw
Dave, your last two paragraphs explain exactly what I'm working on. I'm planning to use a roll pin as a shear pin as the "weak point" in case of a failure rather then a slip clutch. I'm using a chain drive at the front and rear to get the 3.3:1 reduction and a 1:1 gearbox in the center to reverse th...

Re: Hawk-Bilt Ground Saw
Dave, sorry I didn't make myself clearer. The rear PTO that Rick installed drives directly off the pinion shaft. So, I already have a rear PTO that's independent of what gear the transmission is in. And, I have determined by gear ratios and circumferences that the rear PTO has to rotate 3.3 times fa...

I've been off line to attend the National Farm Show in Louisville, KY. It's an amazing event if you've never been there. Dave, I'll call that Plan D. I don't want to start an argument of hydro vs. gear drive here, but I don't like to use hydraulics because of the power loss even though they are a lo...

Lucas, yes it belonged to Rick. I picked it up from him a month or so ago. He had lengthed the frame by about 6 1/2 inches and had planned to put a Teledyne in it. I put the winch on the front to "hide" the increased length. I'm toying with returning it to the original length and do away with the wi...

I've been working on it since November, but finally got my groundsaw all rebuilt. Everything works on it, but it's been too muddy or the grounds been frozen so I can't try it out. Everything works, but I haven't been able to do any digging with it yet. I'm anxious for some warmer, dryer weather to t...
