Re: Carb rebuild
OK, so I finished rebuilding this beat-down carb, and have made a custom rubberized bushing for the throttle shaft to remove excessive play. (Got the idea on this forum.) The shaft does turn, but with some resistance. (It has been oiled.) It probably would not move unless the carb was shaken strenuo...

Re: 122/147 hybrid project
IMGP5152.JPG I didn't care for the original (somewhat flimsy) pulley, and since this is a pulling tractor, no plans for a PTO clutch. Hence, this nice cast iron sheave will also give me added 'flywheel weight' (without breaking the rules, I think). IMGP5153.JPG IMGP5154.JPG The above does not look ...

Re: 122/147 hybrid project
OK, well, it seems that Jan. & Feb. of every year are my best months to make progress on my Cub project(s)... (I guess I need the other 10 months to work and save $$ ;) ) So, picking up from where I last left this thread, I resolved the spacing issue with two large 1.5"ID washers (that were more lik...

Re: Steering tube question
Hi all, So I found myself having to rebuild one steering column from parts from three columns. Turns out I have three different lengths, and only one length was appropriate. OK, that means I have to use that steering shaft and tube. Fortunately, shaft was salvageable, with good splines and minor thr...

Yeah, I tried a deep socket, but its wall was too thick to fit inside the carb housing... (Not much space/clearance where the hinge pin goes...)

Re: Heat Deflector for snow thrower
Some ideas; not saying they are good:
- affix/glue some type of insulation to the exterior of the chute (won't look pretty, but might work)
- replace metal chute with a plastic one (from say, a more modern blower of any kind from a scrap yard)

Re: Carb rebuild
Issue resolved. I'm a bit embarrassed to explain why... Turns out that the brass fitting that holds the float needle was not screwed in all the way into the carb housing... After about 3/4-1 turn, the float sat as it should. So, it was not easy to turn that brass fitting tight, for lack of be...

Re: Carb rebuild
Hello Carb Experts! I am rebuilding a #30, which I believe is the correct carb for my 14hp Kohler. This carb had most likely been tinkered with in the past... I cannot get the float to sit horizontally as it should; it seems like the hinges are not appropriate... I took a float out of a #26 carb sit...

I have the same/similar problem on my 125... I already did the trunion repair, and fixed a significant hydro oil leak. I still have the same symptom. Re: Cub 129
Welcome Jeff!
Sounds like you have a project on your hands!
Shop around; who know; you might find a 129 in better shape than yours, and use your for parts. I do however understand the family tie in wanting that particular 129 up and running.
Most everyone here enjoys a pictorial history!

Re: Forward/Reverse lever
When I do finally get one off, I clean the mating surfaces very well before reassembly. Then I apply anti-seize, including to the set screw threads.
Using a sliding hammer contraption sounds good; I never thought of it as I don't own one...
