Re: Super Garden Tractor Lowering Kit for 451 blower
You would be better with the bent offset. It helps keep the blower tracking straight by acting as a guide for the pivots. 2.5 - 3" works well. Especially if you run ags or tri-ribs as they tend to be taller than turf tires.

Re: RV Antifreeze vs. Washerfluid
Veggie oil would be fine as long as the temp doesn't drop below about 50 degrees. Below that it will turn into a stiff mass like crisco. You really don't want a solid out of balance mass inside a tire on a moving piece of equipment.
I use RV antifreeze most of the time now.

Re: Super Garden Tractor Lowering Kit for 451 blower
They are nothing special. Just grab some 3/16" stee,. Cut it so it bridges the lower two holes with an inch or so overlap. The second set of lower holes should be about 3" or so lower. Then bend them in the middle to offset them enough so they end up the same as the original frame width. They drop t...

You can buy inserts for wrenches from places like Eastwood for this purpose. Usually strong plastic and used on a wrench 1-2 sizes larger. http://www.eastwood.com/10-pc-metric-and-sae-socket-insert-kit.html http://www.genuinehotrod.com/itemgroup/Plastic-Socket-Wrench-Inserts http://bojoinc.com/catal...

I keep mine loaded year around. It helps when mowing as well because the tires don't slip as much and it also keeps it more stable mowing banks.

Pat, If your Horse is one from the late 70's - about 94 or so the shop I worked at painted the attachments. Used to deliver finished parts right to the door in Troy. Was there for the end as well. Broke my heart to see what they did with the items that MTD didn't want... They scrapped multiple tons ...

Re: 451 blower shave plate
Yes you need the lowering kit. Without it the blower will not set down properly. There are a couple folks in the vendor list who have/make the kits. Loading the tires : With a tube you're stuck using a slow method that takes a custom air chuck that lets air out while you pump in the fluid. Basically...

Re: 451 blower shave plate
I loaded mine with RV antifreeze (was on sale cheaper than washer fluid at the time). Between them, two link chains on turfs, the steel cab plus 50 pounds a side in iron and another 100 pounds on the back along with my f@t a$$ in the seat and it just pushes. As Bryan says you won't have much tractio...

You can use a C clamp with a divot in the fixed jaw to reach in and compress the rivet. Or a good hammer and a heavy backer plate.

Re: Low Compression vs. Carb issue
The only K series without ACR is the little K91
The easy way to do a compression test is to use a big drill and socket to spin the engine over at speed then measure the pressure.

Re: 451 blower shave plate
If your used to a single stage you will find the 2 stage throws farther and works the tractor less. The only time I don't like the 451 is in WET snow (I mean the stuff that is slush with water running out of it). Then the self cleaning of a single stage would be nice. Take your time setting up the b...

Outside, Carriage bolts go through from inside as well. If you don't have the correct length make sure you cut them off. Did you also check both gearboxes for wear?

Re: 1863 becomes 2263 (repower)
Well the beast is all back together. Runs like a bear. Tried the mower deck out and with the old engine (and the 1641 with the same deck) tall weeds or wet grass would bog it down. I just mowed through some 10"+ wet grass and it barely opened the governor!!! I can't wait to see what the blower is li...

Kohler HP rating system ??
I have been looking over the various tractors I own and different engines. How does Kohler rate these things??? For example the stock 18HP in the 1863 Versus the stock 22HP in the 3225. As far as the parts books go they show them both having the same short blocks for the 18/20/22 HP versions. All sh...

Re: 1863 becomes 2263 (repower)
You would need a few more pieces due to the different engine families. The exhaust shroud and muffler wont swap from the Magnum to the Command. The clutch may fit but you may need to tap the proper holes. The engine I used only had 3 threaded holes out of 12 possible spots. Hard to say as I don't ha...

Well 99% of the transplant is done. Have a couple of past wiring issues I need to take care of so the fire wall can be put back together, then drop the new heart into the patient. The CH22S came from a 3225 that Dave C. is parting out. Pretty much a bolt in deal except for a couple snags. First was ...

Re: Summer of '53 thru Europe on a motorcycle
I know of a few folks who have run iron butt runs and a couple did it on 250 on/off road bikes. I felt like a wimp when I did a 50 CC ride on my Venture. (that is a verifiable 50 hours or less from coast to coast) Sort of thought about doing it again but nobody seems to ride long distances much any ...

Re: Learn Sarver Heart Center’s Continuous Chest Compression
There are a LOT of us who question the new protocols. BUT we have to do it that way in order to stay legal. (Plus I HAVE to teach the new protocol) The argument I was told was that the O2 content in the blood was high enough without respiration that just keeping it circulating makes a difference. Th...

Re: Learn Sarver Heart Center’s Continuous Chest Compression
CPR is a GREAT thing to know. There are two different methods taught and they depend entirely on what position the person performing them holds. Civilian with NO medical/EMS/Dr. type affiliation can be taught hands only CPR, and AED use. No real test needed and no card. However if your a Cop/Fireman...

Re: Cyclops Shifter Issues
I used rivets out of my assortment but I believe they were 3/16" sickle section rivets. Don't see why grade 8 bolts wouldn't work. They work loose due to the flex of the steel and the rocking motion. The only thing I wish the Cyclops series had was dual controls for the hydro. Foot controls are real...

Re: Cyclops Shifter Issues
I just grind out the old rivets and replace them. The rivets are easy to R&R. Welding can make the spring steel section brittle.
I had to pull the control on the 1863 out because the friction disc was gone.

Had the breather all apart. The reed works fine and seals like it should. The filter was missing (a couple strands left) so I cleaned it out, made a new element out of the proper material and installed it with a new gasket and a dab of sealer. When checked it seemed to be working OK. Not a big fan o...

Re: piston rings ONLY??
The last time I pulled it I didn't really look close. Just took out the 4 engine bolts. Came out fine (drive-shaft slides right out easy). Putting it back in was a bit more fun, with the two bolts sticking up you have to tilt the engine forward, line up the drive shaft, line up the two engine bolts ...
