Re: Torque Wrenches

This is why I have two torque wrenches to use: one in in-lbs, one in ft-lbs. Divide in-lbs. by 12 to get foot pounds (there's 12 inches in a foot) but as Mike says, you'll lose accuracy going from in-lbs to ft-lbs.

Re: Charging problem

I would also verify that the S/G itself is good. You can measure the resistance across the "F" and "A" terminals on the S/G. Zero or Infinity means the field coil assembly is probably toast. The resistance should be 8 ohms or something on that order of magnitude. It's also possible the armature has ...

Re: Paintin Place...

Shouldn't that be a perfect match for any CC before the cyclops models? I thought the only difference between 483 yellow and 483B was that one had a rust inhibitor and the color itself was the same.

Re: 982 turning brakes

Most drum brakes are set up so that one pad self-applies in either direction of wheel rotation. That probably would be a better setup, and I think you've given me an idea for a future project...

Re: So what caused my piston edge to melt?

I think a lean mixture will cause that. This is why air-cooled engines should be run slightly on the rich side.

Re: 1872 where do I go from here?

I'll have to take that bolt out of my CH18 carb and see if that wakes it up. It does fine if the RPM is kept up, but if it gets lugged down too much it will fall flat on its face. I will definitely agree the fuel consumption is wonderful...probably about like a K301.

Re: 1650 Fixes/Resto

That sounds really thin. The thinnest I think I have ever mixed paint was the PPG Shop Line paint for the 100 I redid last summer, and that was 8:1:1 or so IIRC.

Re: 1872 where do I go from here?

I never tried this, but I was looking at my Command once, and it looked like an M18 PTO clutch would bolt to it, but like I said...I didn't try it. Depending on how far forward or backward you have the engine, you may have some interference with the air cleaner cover and the firewall. On my 582, it ...

Re: Solenoid or ignition

Remove the ignition switch and use your multimeter to see if the right contacts are connected to each other when the key is in each position, particularly the start position.

Re: Cast iron rear swap

Ditto. Remember, the 82 series has the drivetrain angled to account for higher engine mounting points. I have been told that the factory external brake linkage will have clearance issues with the bottom of the frame. I can attest to that. Tried it on my 582 when I put a 126 rear in it. I had to use...

Re: Cast iron rear swap

I have been making plans for a swap like this and I think I would use an internal brake setup. My thought is to hook the internal brake up to the hydro control and use it for the primary park brake. Then I was going to set the external brakes up for the dual pedals to use as turning brakes mostly. ...

Re: Avatar Help

Kevin, try to find a setting for the quality. I use GIMP, and when you save it as a jpg, it gives you a slider bar for quality. I think I had to use 70 to get it small enough. My camera outputs at 91, so that makes for too large of an image.

Is there any way in that program to adjust the quality of the saved image? I had the same problem with mine; it was too big after resizing. I had to change the quality to 70 to get the file size under 6KB, and my pic is pretty furry. Moderators: Could that perhaps be changed to 8KB from 6KB? I'm thi...

Re: 682 loader

For the most part, yes. I think the pump I have is rather small, as it takes awhile to get the bucket all the way up. It will still work and do what it is supposed to though. I was also having some issues with hard starting when cold, and I think it's because of the mechanical fuel pump. I'm probabl...

682 loader

For anyone that may have been wondering, I did finish this towards the end of August, a couple of days before I went back to school. I'm now back in FL, and this is safely tucked away until I return for winter break to move snow with it. 100_4822 (Custom).JPG 100_4834 (Custom).JPG 100_4824 (Custom)....
