Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
Replaced more frame cross members yesterday around the battery tray area as they were roached . I'm still amazed how much sheets of rust are falling off this thing . Like I said earlier , I reinforced the frame that was pitted in spots just for insurance . I've replaced a lot of pitted springs...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
Tom , yes I took both sets of leaf springs apart. There was a lot of rust between the leafs . I painted the leafs separately before reassembling them . Dave , the disc brake was locked up with rust and the rear wheels didn't turn .... I had to take them apart to clean them and now the brakes w...

Re: Project 1872.. the not working hydro adventure continues
Aaron in figure 1 of your first post which shows the implement and charge pump relief valves , If I remember correctly the cone part #20 in the charge pump #4 is longer than the one in the # 2 relief valve part # 33 . Also if I remember correctly the charge pump had a stiffer spring . Are your relie...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
Dave , the dremel was for some fine detailed cutting where the saws all was overkill..... :D . I plan on wire wheeling and angle grinder with sanding disc on most of the frame . The side frame rails have some pitting and are pretty solid but I'm going to weld in some 2 inch X 1/8 thick flat stock fo...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
UPS brought me another new toy today . :headbang: They are the cheap Chinese knock offs , but I doubt a $500 gun set will make me a better painter . Either you can paint or you can't . I'm still going to use my old Binks for primer paints , but these are going to be my metal flake , paint , clear co...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
I prefer the term thrifty , although I've been accused of being so tight I squeak . :D I though I'd better post before a fight breaks out . One of my least favorite jobs , masking off wheels to paint :x I really hated to paint the two white rims because the paint was perfect , but the other two rims...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
OK , thanks Tom . I was hoping to use paint stripper . I've also seen several youtube video's where guys have used a heat gun . They soften the paint and then they used a scrapper to raise the edge of softened paint and literally peeled the paint off with their bare hands in sheets on a corvette . P...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
Today I turned my attention to the cracked right front fender . I was lucky that it was a clean break with no missing chunks , and that the inside was unpainted raw fiberglass , the problem is that it was an old break and it had a rather large gap that taken a set , there was no way to hold it close...

Bryan , I hope to have it ready for paint by spring . Riding it around tractor shows sounds good . ;) Started working on the frame work for the trunk deck lid today . A lot of hand bending and fitting to get the bend radius correct Some of the tools I've used and plan to use to finish the trunk skin .

Re: 982 grill and grill shell
All 82 series grills and grill shells are the same , as are also the ones on the yellow and white models like the 1810 , 1811 , etc . The only difference is that the 982's had a extra screen attached to the grill with muffler cutouts at the bottom for the twin Onan exhaust . A couple of my 982's hav...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
The weather has been not been cooperating the last week with rain , and now the cold weather with snow today , so I've been doing what I can to get it done . I covered my seat today from scratch as the golf cart came without one , so I had to measure and cut the foam and plywood base and stretch the...

Re: Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
Dave , I originally was going to patch the floor pan , but it was like swiss cheese after I took the floor mat up . Seems water was sitting between the rubber mat and the sheet metal and there wasn't enough metal left in the floor pan to weld to . So I decided to cut it all out . I didn't anticipate...

Restoring a 1974 Pargo .
I figured the title would make you look , what the heck is a Pargo ? I actually picked this up from BB last December , it was his dads , and I decided it needed a second life . After rounding up some batteries and decent tires and changing a couple of bad solenoids it seems to run OK. I've sta...

Re: trans.problem in cub 1810
Stuart , I wouldn't think its the relief valves . Like Kevin said you would have to have both fail for it not to move in one direction or the other . One is for forward and the other is for reverse , and the odds of both failing at the same time rivals hitting the lottery . I'm thinking like Kevin t...

Re: Fairbanks 22 Ton engine move at Zagray Farm
Cool video of old iron moving old iron . About halfway thru the video though I felt sorry for the poor crane operator , as it looks like he's receiving instructions from at least 6 or 7 different people . Looks like a case of to many chiefs and not enough Indians . I also overheard someone in the vi...

Re: Tractor dies
Daves correct . If the bearing goes out ( locks up ) you cant turn the deck off . BTDT on a couple of cubs I've owned . Also if the PTO coil shorts out I believe it has a fuse so I'm also thinking thats not his problem . I may be wrong , it wouldn't be the first time .

I've seen a partially blown head gasket do that . Runs good till they warm up and then lose power and die . Check for oil around the headbolts .

Wayne , since your pratically in my back yard maybe you should come over and see if I have something you might like .... I'm looking to thin the herd . Terry , are you referring to the snowblades ? If you are the the only difference is the mounting bracket (subframe) , and lift rod length . The 42 inch snow blade is the same , they just take a different subframe .

Wow Tim looks great . I agree with you and Joe about the outragious cost off Original headlight sets . I do think they add to the looks of the tractor like the fenders do . I try to find them cheap on ebay which isn't easy . I've been stockpiling some and have plans to sell complete sets ...
