Re: Why didn't IH build 14 hp or 16 hp gear drives?
Here is how I did it on a 123. I cut hole in the tunnel and then made a plate for over it.

Re: Electric Lift
I believe the bracket was welded to the rockshaft on the electric lift models- or at least the factory installed units. I know when adding hydraulic lift you cut the lift handle off the rockshaft and bolted a bracket on, but I'm not sure if the electric lifts were the same. I assume if they offered ...

Re: plow lift adapter
Tim, You don't have to worry about the notches on the handle. Just let the blade float. There should be a little button on the front of the lift handle grip. When you push this button with the lock button down, it will hold the button down and allow the blade to float over the uneven ground. The ski...

Re: Need photos and info on IH Cub Cadet carts
Lew has me covered with the #4 but I still need some nice pics of # 1, 2, and 3. If possible, the pics will look best if the cart is out in an uncluttered background. It is ok if it is hooked to a tractor. Side or 3/4 views from a fairly low angle will work the best. Basically need to show how the m...

Need photos and info on IH Cub Cadet carts
I'm going to do an article on the different IH carts for the Yellow & White pages in Red Power Magazine. I need some nice photos of all 4 models (#1, #2, #3, and #4) preferably in restored condition. It will be somewhat of an identification guide. I'm also wondering if any of you know when the diffe...

Your blade was probably made before the hyd angle became available.

Re: Front blade hydraulic angle cylinder
I believe the early angle cylinders were the same as the lift cylinder on the WF and QLs. The later angle cylinders used the larger pivot pins.

Re: Why didn't IH build 14 hp or 16 hp gear drives?
Actually they did. The 582 was a 16 hp gear drive and ws built by IH. If you are talking about single cylinders in the yellow & white era then probably mostly lack of demand. The hydro consumes some of the engine's power so the extra power isn't needed on a gear drive. Probably also had to do with p...

Re: Axle pin
Dave, That is very interesting about the grease. So I suppose one should pick a grease and stick with the same stuff all the time. I have used the commercial roll pin punches with the little button on the end. They never seem to work for me with spirol pins because the "hole" in the spirol pin isn't...

One trick I learned with a 3 jaw chuck. If you mark the part and the chuck with a sharpie before removing it, and line the mark up when putting it back in,
the runout will be fairly minimal. This only works if you are chucking on the same surface again. Most of what I do isn't that precise anyhow.

Re: Sold my truck, back to driving a car
We can get some pretty good winters around here but we haven't for a few years. I used to drive my 79 4wd all winter till about 4 years ago I bought a beater front wheel drive car. I never put the truck in 4wd and 10 mpg wasn't worth it when gas got to $4 a gallon. And I have never had any trouble g...

Vince, I always wondered why Kohler put the bigger exhaust valve in unless they were having problems with heat or something. Probably 95% of engines use a larger intake than exhaust valve because the intake mixture is more volume than exhaust. For a stock 10 you would be better with the small exhaus...

Paul,
Is it a CCC? I didn't remember there being any 1282s with cast rearends. I would think that would have to be one of the early versions of that model.

Re: Power Steering on a Quiet Line?
If you use the steering gear with the u-joint you could move the crossmember back further in the frame. I did this on my diesel puller to make room for the clutch. You can make your own lines from 3/8 brake line. You can use Eaton Weatherhead "Ermetto" compression fittings so you don't have to get a...

Re: Lathe work
When I use a tap or die in the lathe I usually get enough threads started to make sure they are cutting square and then move it to the vise where it is a little easier to work. I usually do too, but I didn't have a die stock big enough for that die. Most of my larger dies are hex. I couldn't justif...

I needed a special fitting for the new fuel filter on my pulling tractor. It is a 3/8 npt 90 deg fitting with a 5/16 hose barb. I couldn't find one to buy in any material other than plastic. With the new high pressure supply pump I didn't want to use plastic. I could have gotten brass fittings but c...

It is a 44C. Are they OE or aftermarket blades? They may be a bit short but they don't need to be almost touching. They overlap because the middle blade sits ahead of the outer ones.

Re: Hoods don't aline on either 1450.
You could try putting flat washers under the grill only at the front holes. That will tilt the grill back slightly and will bring the hood closer to the dash. I'm guessing someone ran into something with it at one time and pushed the dash tower back or even bent it.I have seen quite a few with simil...

Tom, Your last sentence sums it all up. That is why you are seeing fewer and fewer true garden tractors being produced. There just isn't any market for them. Most people that just mow grass want cheap throw away lawn tractors. The type of people who bought Cub Cadet garden tractors from the 60s to t...

I don't like the new kohler fuel pumps. The old ones had 1/8" npt fittings which you could get anywhere. The new ones use special fittings that seal with an o ring and are a real pain to remove and install. Vince, do you have contact info for the guy or a link? I have a couple old pumps laying aroun...

It would only work with a vacuum system of some sort. Most are engine powered but there was a company called Grass Pump that made one with a blower that ran off the right spindle via a belt. We sold a few of them before CCC came out with the 46" deck/bagger combo.

I need a memory refresher on wide frame 3 points. Is there more than one style lift bar? I'm thinking the gear drives used a bent bar and the hydros used a straight bar. Am I correct?

Re: Snap on air tool
Eric, Air ratchets don't usually have enough torque to loosten bolts. You use them by hand like a normal ratchet to get the bolt loose, then use the power to spin the bolt the rest of the way out. They are mainly a time saver for tight areas where it takes a long time to run bolts out by hand. If yo...
