Re: 982 Project
It's coming along pretty good now. Found out the hydro pump gasket was leaking, so had to tear it back down quick before I got too far along. Better now than later I guess. Does anyone have a 982 wiring diagram? There's been some custom work done to this harness I'd like to fix right while it's off.

Re: PTO missing?
Yes, the belt always turns down to the mower. Engaging that pedal just slides the center pulley on the deck over to tighten a second belt, which starts to turn the deck spindles. Then of course you have that timed belt that attaches the 2 spindles. The decks are quite a bit of work to get working if...

Re: PTO missing?
Geezer, I actually don't even have a belt yet. I was going to get one at the parts store, but didn't remember the exact length and wasn't cutting grass anyway. That's as far as I got. The way it is now, there's no way to get the belt on without loosening the grill I believe. I squeezed everything ju...

Re: PTO missing?
The Original doesn't have a pto clutch up front. It only has a pulley on the motor and the pedal engages the deck. What you might have seen on here is a few of us discussing a RARE option offered later to convert the Original to a pto clutch. I put one on mine recently and just got done with that ac...

982 Project
Well, I've worked a little on this as I had time and it's coming along. It took a couple tries to figure out changing the carriers in the CI rear end and having to switch ring gears. Had it apart 3 different times until it was right :x . It's done now and hopefully never has to come back apart. Here...

Re: Muffler boxes.
That pto clutch looks like it spent some time outside. When I have one like that, I take it off, blast the pulley and part that you bolt down last (technical term), and repaint them. When I cut with the 782, the pulleys and belt get way too hot to touch, but never causes any problems. You never hear...

Re: Muffler boxes.
The Series II is all open in between the muffler and pto if I understand your question correctly. There's a guard under the pto pulley and one on top of the muffler, but that's it. I have a newer style M18 going into my 982 that has a different style muffler guard that surrounds the whole muffler to...

Re: Trunion Repair
I too would love a "how too" section. I really needed one when switching carriers and axles on my 982 this past week. Had to take it back apart once because I screwed up. Live and learn though and hopefully it'll work when in the tractor. When doing these trunion repairs, how important is adding the...

Re: steering wheel puller
Those look nice and I'd love to have one in the tool box with all the steering wheels I remove. However, until my 2 methods of pushing on it with my knees a bit and on old style ones lifting the tractor an inch off the ground with my loader around the steering wheel fails me, I can't justify buying ...

Re: 50th Annivesary Model
I don't think it's a terrible looking tractor, just not impressive. Still haven't stopped using plastic in the hood and side panel area, a LOT of plastic on the extended dash to crack and need replaced, rear wheels look pretty weak compared to older ones, etc. Just not something you'd buy to last 15...

Re: 50th Annivesary Model
Wasn't the twin cylinder motor introduced in 1979 and that says 1980? Maybe I missed it? Oh well, can't say I'm really impressed with that new tractor either. I am obviously partial to the old ones though or I wouldn't be here.

A Cub chipper/shredder. You're killing me Ray!!! I've never seen one of those things around here anywhere. People here must have burnt all of their limbs in the 70s.

Re: Look what followed me home
Nice looking tractor Scott. I too have had a few "look what followed me homes" recently. 2 weeks ago I had no spare tractors besides my 8 faithful that I always have and not a care in the world of working on anything. Since then, I picked up the 982, a 73, 1450, 124, 128, some blades, mower decks, l...

Re: Berrymans for cleaning old gas gunk out of tank?
If it were me, I'd probably find another tank. Reason being, even if that carb cleaner broke the sludge loose, you'll spend $20 on it if we're thinking of the same stuff. And that's $20 spent IF it works, a sunk cost if it doesn't. Secondly with the baffles in the 12hp tanks, even once the sludge is...

I don't see a "post reply" or "new topic" in the decal section to post it to. That's why I thought it was closed. Is that where you want me to send it to you or through email? If I misunderstood what you meant by sending it to you, let me know. I'm sure it won't be my last decal I ever see to send.

It's just a '51 Farmall M with separate starter and generator. Just a side note, the live hydraulics probably hurt my winter starting since they run from the distributor. Oh well, it's starting now so I'm happy for the moment.

New decal for Geezer
Geezer, don't know if you have this. Came from a 73. This was just a few miles from where I live years ago when in business... YEARS AGO. Don't know if you have it. My great-grandpa's KB-5 actually came from here in the 40's.

Dealer Decals
Since Geezer's dealer decals have always been kind of a big thing, what if there was a separate place to post decal pictures for him instead of in "Shooting the Breeze" or somewhere? Maybe a separate unlocked thread area of the "Dealer Decals" topic? Just a thought.

Re: KT to Mag conversion question
AJ, mine came from O-Reilly's for $11 I believe. It wasn't in a package or anything to get the part number off of (unless it's on the reciept). I just told them I need one with 5 prongs, double-checked all the numbers on the prongs, and I was off.

Re: Farmall M
Funny you'd mention drawing too much power away from the points. It's never been an issue on the little Cub Cadets, but when this battery is low, forget jumping it or pulling it. It can turn over all it wants and won't start. Since putting the new battery in a week or two ago, I've started it 25 tim...

Re: 982 info
Thanks Todd. I'm guessing the fine spline axles and carrier have an identical ratio to those in a cast iron rear and are NOT a part of the reduction for bigger tires? I'm really gonna know some new things by the time I'm done with this.

Re: 982 info
Well, I got a 1450 rear end. I need to get different axles since this one didn't have external brakes, but that's nothing. This gave me a cast rear end, standard gearing, and ported pump all in one without any mis-matching. Are there any issues with just using the whole rear? I know no splined shaft...

Re: NF PTO anti rattle springs ( check out the button LOL )
That's not correct. The rounded part is supposed to face out and the 2 ends go inside the pulley hub to take up space and keep it from rattling. And those are all technical terms

Re: 982 info
It revs up pretty good. I'm limited right now and have to kind of hold off on any work to it. A PO cobbled a 25hp Onan motor in there and the driveshaft is welded and angles up just to fit and hydro lines run around the driveshaft and wherever they can. I'm in the process of selling the Onan and loo...

Re: 982 info
Well, I want to change it to a cast rear-end regardless, but didn't realize the pumps weren't directly interchangable. Is .5 mph all that can be gained like that? I feel like my 782 is faster than the 982 right now even without the bigger tires. If I found a whole rear with a ported pump, I don't se...

I'm messing with this a little tonight and think I'm on to something. Perfectly adjusted clutch, bearing on the crank in just enough to not stop the pto from disengaging, and button just away from the clutch tip... the grill WILL go in without being cut. It's real close and the grill brace won't go ...

Well here is what sparked my curiosity. After a little trip today this followed me home. It has this power steering/ steering-assist on it. Any ideas what it is? And rest assured Todd, your info on the rear end gears will result in an earlier cast-iron rear being installed to increase speed as much ...
