Re: New rings for a 108, some advice please.

Welcome Denis  My 122 ( 12 hp K-301 ) was smoking like mad when I got it. I honed the cylinder wall ( making a nice 45* cross hatch ) and then took it into work to measure it. ( I'm a machinist ). The bore was still within service specs so I went with a new piston, rings and connecting rod. Do...

Re: QL motor mounts - what's wrong?

I put solid motor mounts on the 1250 last year so it's not that the ISO mounts are failing and 'pulling' the bolts out. I hadn't thought of studding the pan and then using locking nuts. That might just work. Darn pain in the neck to do though . Since I have narrow frames, I'm going to assume...

Re: Blade Nuts on 38" and 48" decks(XX8 & XX9)

Geezer What I do is pull the front clip off, hood and all in one shot. Then the cables and wire to the coil. Then the 4 bolts on the eng and out she comes. Going back in is a bit harder lining up the 3 pin driver. I did the same thing removing the engines in the 122 & the 125. Just "guesstimate" th...

Re: .003 oversized rings

I actually have extra .010 rings new in the box. How do you go about filing the 3-piece oil ring. I've always used this style of ring filer http://www.precisionmeasure.com/images/ringfile.jpg Nothing really fancy, just a regular abrasive cut off wheel you turn by hand. You could make one easily eno...

I can take care of that too when I make the extended sleeve hitch. I picked up 1" round stock today in addition to the flat bar I needed.

Re: Holding your Kohler in an engine stand

Dave,
When I assembled the engine stand, it was a real bugger to get the rubber grips on handle that lets you rotate the engine. That's why I put the engine onto the assembled stand.

I agree if the rotation handle is easily removable, that would be easier.

Re: I recently contracted this "Rare" Disease

It grabs hold of you and just becomes one thing after another. I started with a 125 with 42" mower, Trac Vac system, QA-42 & 42" dirt/snow blade. Then you need weights for snow removal so you build a bracket. Then you need lights so you can clear snow at night. You know, a spring assist would be nic...

The 122 is a manual 3 speed trans and I'll assume you mean hydraulic lift for the mower. Easy to work on and reliable too. I have two Cubs myself, a 125 and a 122. Both work very well.

Dave your statement is true , I think we all have tried to plow dirt that was as hard as concrete . I personally have lift straps with holes or slots , and there easy to change at a plowday. Most times the slotted holes work fine , but there are times where added down pressure from the holed straps...

Re: dirt plow set up

Thanks Vince Looks good! I'd use floating lift straps though...there's no need for down pressure with a properly-adjusted plow. I just use chains for plowing, and have it set up such that there is a little slack in the chains with the plow in the ground. Matt, It's easier to drill holes than slots :...

I think I have it close enough so when I show up at a plow day, they won't point and laugh  I have 11-1/2" from the centerline of the pivot pin to the center of where the plow hooks up. Could someone measure theirs to see if that's correct? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JRD77VET/house/c...
