Diesel puller finally painted

It took 4 years after I first got it together and running, but it's finally painted. See my other thread below to see what it looked like before with yellow and white and rust. It started out as an 1806. The engine is a 3 cylinder D-1105 Kubota (1100cc) with a Garrett GT20 turbo. The model "1582" is...

Re: Can't find Hydro oil leak

Nobody makes the neoprene gaskets. You have to make them yourself from sheet material. I got mine from www.useenco.com or www.mscdirect.com but Mcmaster-carr should have it too. Some guys have said they have gotten it from auto parts stores. I work at a NAPA store and we do not carry it. Our gasket ...

More than one way to skin a cat. Nice job Tom. I wasn't aware there was a planetary gear reduction starter. I like your analogy of building a ship in a bottle. In my 30 plus years working on these tractors, I have come to the conclusion that for the most part, the "short cut" takes longer than remov...

Re: Can't find Hydro oil leak

I wouldn't put two gaskets in. Chances are one will slip or be pushed out and cause a leak. Some guys make their own gaskets from 1/16" thick neoprene material. I have had pretty good luck with them so far. I replaced the original gasket in my 782 about 12 years ago with an OEM cork gasket. I put a ...

Re: brake hydro control linkage adjustment

Are you using the procedure from the service manual? Usually you don't adjust the threaded rods. The return to neutral is adjusted by moving the bracket where the linkage bolts to the pump up or down. It isn't real apparent just by looking at it. You really need to go by the manual or you are just p...

Re: Ford, Jacobsen, Oliver and MM garden tractors

I got the tractor yesterday. Its not in bad shape and it actually has a Jacobsen grill. Has a recently new short block in it. I'd like to find the parts to convert the hydro filter from inline to spin on. The left spindle is tweaked but I can probably fix it. I need a few other small items too. If a...

I adapted a Jacobsen cab to a 123. They were made by Original Tractor Cab co who I believe makes the ones for the new Cub Cadets. They have a hard plastic or fiberglass top and soft sides. I believe wheel horse and others also used Original cabs.

Re: Ford, Jacobsen, Oliver and MM garden tractors

The one I'm looking at is an open side model from the early 70s. I used to mow with a Jake 1450 and I remember the dash being cracked. I always figured it was because the steering column didn't have enough support at the top. I'm pretty sure they use the same basic steering gear as the Cub Cadets. I...

Ford, Jacobsen, Oliver and MM garden tractors

Is anyone here into these Jacobsen made machines? My family's dealership sold Jacobsens when I was a kid. They are good machines. Not quite the same as Cub Cadets but they do have some cool features. The high/low range and foot controls on the hydros are nice. I have a line on a Ford LGT145 that may...

I found the manual for the newer version on Brinly's website but it didn't tell me what I need to know. My wife wants to try a garden this year again. You probably won't completely eliminate spinning on snow and ice no matter how much weight you add. If you get it weighted down too much
you will start breaking stuff. When does it spin? Maybe try taking smaller bites with the blade. Sometimes it helps to back further up and get some more momentum.

I think they work ok, but they take up a lot of room in an already crowded engine compartment. Where all have you priced the the for in the head?
That price sounds high to me.

I can't say for sure about the IH days, but in the late 80s CCC days the dealers ordered the models and quantities they wanted. The more they ordered the better discount they got and the quicker they sold them, the better discount they got. I don't remember for sure when the spring orders were place...

Re: 1450 Update - Need Hydro Help

Not sure what you are calling the sector shaft. The shaft that the swash plate pivots on requires complete disassembly to remove. Most of them seem to have some side to side play in that shaft. Won't hurt anything.

Any play in the linkage can cause "hydro creep".

Urschel's is a good source for decals. Scott is very meticulous about the correct color, shape, font, etc. Maple-Hunter decals are decent quality but you can usually see some slight differences from the originals. Urschel's are exactly like the originals that the tractors came from the factory with ...

That is a good write-up. I had always heard not to use starting fluid in an indirect injected (glow plug) diesel. But this is the first time I had seen a complete explanation of why. I don't use it in diesels at all. For gas engines I only use liquid starting aid as a quick diagnosis to see if the p...

Very nice Paul! I was planning on something similar with my loader tractor. I was going to call it a 2123. I was going to do the wheels and hood in white and the decals in black so
it would resemble some of the tactor/loader/backhoes that IH made a few years later.

Folks,
If any of you own a 3000 series Cub Cadet, I need some photos for Red Power Magazine. It doesn't matter what model or condition as long as they are good clear high res
pics with a fairly clear background. You can post them here or email them to me.
