Here are some pics of mine when I was doing various repairs on it.

It is a pretty tight fit in an 82 series. Tim DeLooza put one in a 1650. It would be a rear shoehorn job in a narrow frame.

Any good Wii games?

Our family got a Wii game system for Christmas. I'm not real impressed with any of the games that came with it or any of the ones I have seen at the stores. I realize there probably aren't too many "gamers" here but it never hurts to ask. Are there any good racing/driving games or any good hunting/s...

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

Bryan, Before you tear anything apart, measure the frame widths and spring perch widths on both trucks to make sure they are the same. If the 77 was a cab & chassis the axle may not fit the 86. You may be able to make it work but you may need to move the spring perches on the dually axle. You may al...

Re: Hydro question...

Kurt, The cast iron rearend weighs 50# more than the aluminum one. So if you are using the tractor in an application that needs weight (anything but mowing grass) then that would be less weight you would need to add. If you only use it for mowing, leave the aluminum rear in it since the lighter weig...

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

BB, Another factor is whether your 77 was a cab & chassis or a pickup. The rear axles and the frames are different widths. But That won't matter if you are putting a flat bed on. But if you are wanting to put a pickup bed on it you could have some problems. On a cab & chassis the rear wheels don't s...

I don't think you have anything to worry about with the flywheel magnets. I would leave the battery disconnected though.

Re: Dual Hydraulics opinions

I have one tip for everyone using a power angle setup. Periodically check the bolts that hold the front bracket to the blade. I have had these come loose or out completely several times. I finally used locknuts along with the lockwashers on them.

Bryan,
If it had the dually hubs with those wheels, the wheels would be sticking way out past the front fenders.

Colin,
How about a bigger version of that one;

Re: Red Cub Cadet 982 Stories

I saw a good idea on the old forum years ago that might solve your problem. I helped my cousin built one a couple years ago. Take an old mower lift frame (or make something similar from scratch) and mount it so it is stationary to the tractor at the back and attaches to the mule drive at the front. ...

Re: Old trucks... lets see them!

Bryan, When you say the correct front rims, do you mean the Budd dually rims? It looks like it has single wheel front hubs on it now so you will need the dually front hubs to work with the dually front wheels. Looks like someone put a '79 grille in it. I believe '77 was the first year for a 4WD 1 to...

Have you done this on a Super? I didn't think it would work on a Super because of the shoulders at the ends of the shaft. If it does it would save him some work.

Re: Need help again on 1572

Bryan, I have never had one of those stub shafts off. The more I think about it, I would unbolt the iso mounts. When I took mine apart to do the starter the one angle bracket that bolts to the block was cracked and you couldn't see the crack when it was together. Ray W said that is very common so th...

Anyone running E-85?

I have seen this discussed on a few other forums but I'm curious if anyone here runs it. This would be for the 4000 rpm stock class. I'm just curious if it's worth the effort to modify the carb to make it work. It would seem that it would have the potential to make a bit more power than gasoline pro...

Re: Need help again on 1572

Bryan, IIRC the pto slides onto a stub shaft that bolts to the flywheel. Maybe you can slide the clutch forward enough to unbolt the stub shaft and remove it all together? I would think ubolting the rubber mounts and leaving the cradle in place would be easiest, but I haven't had mine that far apart...

Re: Loader Opinions???

I spent a lot of time "engineering" my loader project long before I got any parts to start building it. It doesn't take a lot of power to run a loader; traction is the limiting factor. I ended up building a tractor from the ground up to mount the loader on. I settled on a narrow frame because they a...

I have never bought any but I remember several discussions on the old site about these couplers. They are also used on JD tractors and are fairly reasonably priced from the JD dealers. I believe they are Parker couplers so if you have a Parker store in your area they should have them too. At one tim...

I'm wondering if the upper arm is already bent (which is what the strap is supposed to prevent). The force of trying to lift the blade would tend to force the arms apart like that.

Re: Time to Repair 1572 Driveshaft - What Would You Do??

I'll add another vote for keeping it original. As I have mentioned before, I have yet to be convinced that the CV joint setup is an improvement over the rag joints. They don't have anything to cushion the shock. I always thought the rag joints were somewhat "sacrificial" so they would wear out rathe...

then hit the "shop online" button in the middle and that will take you to the parts lookup.
