Rusty pulleys...

Just was looking at a few oddball pulleys and some of the blower parts and got to wondering, I know my old blower has some rust and pitting on the drive and idler pulleys but it doesn't really seem to be causing a noticeable issue in belt wear. I wondered just how bad they have to be before they rea...

Re: Older Cub Parts

I thought about a hardened stud for the box but then realized that would likely wear the worm itself more than the stud. If there was more room in there you could make a stirrup with a bearing on the end to ride in the groove. I looked at a couple of cam followers as well but nothing off the shelf w...

Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase

If this machine is the one Don has it should have all the kinks worked out of it. He was on the old registry back before the crash. As for the repower, the command engine is a good upgrade. The factory engine would have been the flat twin, which are good if they are the series two. But the commands ...

Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase

They are simple to maintain really, change the oil, change the air filter, use non-ethanol gas, keep watch for mice who like to chew and build nests, Keep the blades sharp and have a spare belt or two on hand, then just run them. To keep the engine happy a bit of MMO in the gas and when you are gett...

Hey Steve, there has been a 782D on Utica Craigslist. There seem to be 2 prices,$3200 or $4000. It has a cab and blower, but I didn't look too far into it.
Yeah there is that one and a 1572 Diesel super as well. Only issue at the moment is money... The hospital has to get pair first.

Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase

Yep, Ivers place was the one who held the big auction in the spring. The place up the road is MacFaddens. He used to come and run the auction at Ivers. I was likely bidding against you Joe. Didn't know it then. Sad thing is that most of the dealers around here now don't keep the older trade ins like...

Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase

Yep, knew what you meant. I have only been out to the place once after Iver got out. Miss having him out there, he stocked a lot of parts for the older machines. Bought my 1641 there, then bought a lot of misc. parts over the years. I think he got out at the right time, as much as I like Cub Cadets,...

Re: 1979 Cub Cadet International Purchase

OK so I'm late to the party. Cooperstown is in my back yard. I believe I also know that tractor as well as it was part of Iver Lindbergs collection when he owned that same shop. Bought many parts out there as well as a few of my Cubs. The building has a unique history though. At one time it was a fi...

Re: setting up a sleeve hitch plow for use on a 3point

For the sleeve hitch plow you don't set the tractor on any blocks, just level so the sleeve hitch is level as well. Remember that the sleeve hitch on most tractors do not tilt like a three point can. Then you adjust the plow so it the rear of the depth guide is about 1 inch off the ground for the in...

451 surprise and possible warning to others.

So I decided to strip one of my old 451 blowers down for parts as it is seriously rusty and I now have a few blowers on hand. Found out a couple of things that might be something to check if you are running a 450 or 451 blower on a Cyclops tractor. Cub cadet issued a bulletin about how some of the g...

Re: Another 451

I was surprised when I actually looked it over. The only parts missing are the belt guard (part of it is there) and the lift arm that mounts to the rockshaft, which I have 4 of anyway. One scroll has a light bend that took about 30 seconds to fix. No other dings or damage. Only wear was the shoes an...

Re: Sabre tractor

The Sabre and Scotts tractors were both John Deere answers to build "box store" tractors to a lower price point. They wanted to compete with other brands in that market. The current JD 100 series are the ancestors of them. I would put them in the same category as the Cub Cadet 1000 series. Basically...

Another 451

Found another orphan 451 blower nearby, Paid the low low adoption fee and brought it home. This one is in the best shape of any I have seen in a long time, it looks to have maybe 20 hours of use. Only things it needs are the idler pulleys replaced as it has sat long enough for them to rust up. Has t...

Tom, Yeah one of the doctors told me I was very, very close to having a major attack. Both of the ones they worked on were over 85% blocked, There is still one artery they couldn't do anything with as it is so small they don't make a stent to fit, on some drugs for that. Docs gave me a tentative go ...

Bassett is hard for me to forget. Did a lot of my EMS training under them and St. Lukes plus others. Plus for me they are local. My only gripe was when I saw the full bill, that almost put me right back into the cardiac ward !!!! Total hit over $70K The two stents were $5,600.00 just for the parts! ...

For myself it's been a wild winter, hoping it gets a lot better. Started on rebuilding a super into a "perfect" tractor. Was going along OK until the bottom fell out of life. Started having some odd pains and getting dizzy. Wife got paranoid and shuffled me off to the ER. Hey look at that a blood pr...

Anyone know off hand if the metal tunnel cover will drop into place on a tractor with a plastic one? I like the metal ones for durability over the plastic.

Re: Last Year/Model for Genuine I-H Cub Cadet ???

The last of the IH designs were the cyclops machines. The 1/2/3000 machines are MTD designs. Easy way to think of it is to look at the attachments. You can use 99% of the 82 series items on the cyclops machines with very little work. That all stopped when the new MTD designs hit.
