Re: Steering whines
Just be sure the pump doesn't have any crud in it. Likely "made offshore", even brand new can have bad stuff left behind after manufacturing. I'd pump some hydro fluid into a waste pan first just to flush it out. Other than my concerns about contaminants in the pump, I think it's a good idea! My abu...

Re: New 1650
I’ve used both MMO and sea foam, sea foam fixed a water in gas issue years ago on a daily driver... That's an instance where adding alcohol is a necessary evil. Alcohol makes gas go bad because it attracts water. But once you have water in the fuel, adding more alcohol is what will get it out. But ...

Crikey, here we go! "Ken's winter driveway battle thread"! Ken, I do feel for you, but you do such a good job of sharing each year, with great pics, it's like being there, like we're in the battle with you! So, right now, this is like pre-season scrimmage time. Things are going to get real, re...

Re: New 1650
High Paul, good looker there, nice find! I believe Seafoam has alcohol in it, I'd avoid that. Alcohol isn't a good lubricant. I'd use Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO), follow their directions on the bottle for adding to the oil. It might take some good hot summer running before it finally loosens up, but I ...

Joe - All of mine have vents, but they still tend to want to push air back up through the funnel. Every time I get tricked into filling the funnel too full for too long, a big bubble pushes up through the funnel and splashes Hy-tran at me! Filling the stupid things is the worst part of the job! I fi...

Re: Steering whines
Tim - I'm glad things worked out in your "snow blade topic", but I wouldn't operate that tractor at all until you get that fluid changed. You're hurting that hydro with each moment that engine is running pumping that sludge around back there. When you change the fluid and filter just top off to the ...

Re: Anyone ever split the hydraulics?
It's a good thing to contemplate, but I don't see capacity as a likely problem. The "full mark" in these rears is nearly to the top of the housing. The ring and pinion does not need complete submersion, but I believe Cub did this to provide more oil reserve and cooling. Case in point, I once topped ...

Re: Steering whines
The fluids looked foamy or milky on the dipstick. That's a problem. The fluid should be a light pink, not foamy or milky. Milky indicates water intrusion or the wrong fluid. Change the fluid and filter. Make sure to only use Cub or Case-IH Hy-Tran fluid. For the filter be sure it's the proper hydro...

Ugh, I know. It's just been too long since I've thought about this with standard GT since I moved to all SGT years ago. I think Joe and/or Steve will know right off the bat, so I'm trying to push the easy button and hoping that they jump in and save me!

Re: Snow blade
It will physically attach, but the 1864 has the newer taller front axle, so I'm not sure if the angle will be ideal. That said, I suspect it will be fine. I also can't remember if the lift rod will be the same due to differences in the rockshaft set-up, but I suspect that will be ok. I'm just having...

Re: 1872 freshen up burning oil
I like to vary the RPMs during break in. It puts different loads on cylinder wall(s). Dale does have a point, so I'll modify my response to "concentrate in the upper rpm range". I was just trying to keep you from lugging the engine too badly. You want to load it down without lugging it unmercifully.

Re: 1872 freshen up burning oil
What BM said, +1. Do this before using the tractor any more, you need to get the rings seated before the cylinder walls glaze over. Full throttle only, drag the heavy skid, up a hill if you have one. Also +1 on conventional oil ASAP. Everyone has their brand, and I don't want to start an oil thread,...

Kevin - I can't figure out why, but something about those bathtubs is entertaining to me, thanks for sharing! Strangely appealing, even though they're light duty machines. Re: Boom goes the belt !!!
Steve - Very helpful information. I've used Gator blades on the 2135 LT (38", 2-blade) at my parents, and I found them to be slightly better but not a marked improvement over the factory "3 in 1" blade. I think they did mulch better, but didn't bag as well. The result was as expected, just no extrao...

Steve - I think I'm going to end up following your lead here with the blades and "speed up pulley", but I'm curious... Did you try just making one change first? Did you swap pulleys but keep the stock blades or vice versa, upgrade to just the Gator blades, but with the original pulley? I'm just curi...
