Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)

Ooh... I want to guess. Looking at the direction of the mud trails, I'm thinking that left side was down in the muddy ditch. The only way to keep moving was to let the tires spin. With an open differential that left wheel down in the slippery ditch was throwing mud up forward onto everything. That's...

D2, this needs more of an explanation! I hope you didn't roll it over! Splashed by another vehicle? Help us understand why it now looks like a mud-bog machine!

Oof... these are visuals I don't need! Let's get back to bolt bins and other shop organization. I'll stick with the phone in the First Aid Kit visual, I liked that one!

dag - I like it. And I actually still prefer incandescent bulbs for some stuff like this. Incandescent light is easy on the eyes. And why is the first aid kit on the floor? D2 - That's dag thinking ahead... He knows that while working he'll be so distracted thinking of ways to poke a stick at Big Mi...

Re: Loader Mutt Continues...

Hmmm... I'm certainly a fan of "overbuilt", but the gussets are quite thick for the application. Since we like rear ballast, that's not bad, but without beveling you'll never get weld that matches the gusset strength. I also don't remember how thick the axle tubes are, but I'd also be concerned abou...

Re: What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)

It hurts to think of the number of tractors that get scrapped for such a simple part failure. Fortunately yours is owned by someone man enough to make it right! But I'd of definitely pulled the snowblower off first!

Mike - Thanks for some pics reminding us that warmer weather is on the way! If you are diligent you'll find a thread where a few of us have beefed up similar box blades. I doubled the number of teeth and reinforced mine quite a bit.

Re: Loader Mutt Continues...

For the reasons you mention, I don't much like lockers either. They come in suddenly and don't have any modulation. The impact loading can be off the charts if an inexperienced user applies at the wrong time. Digital, all or nothing. Too easy to brake something. To me the ultimate is limited slip an...

Dave, I think the biggest accomplishment is getting motivated to go back to work after a big dinner and a movie! That think looks bulletproof to me. What I did with my tractor today! (Pic heavy please!)

Ok, this thread was originally a fun idea, but I think it fizzled because "The Rules" stifled conversation. And we need more conversation, not less, so "The Rules" are gone! So, this is morphing into the more traditional "What I did with my tractor today", but try to at least start your story with a...

Dave - Great write up and detailed project pics. Even for guys that wouldn't try something so custom, it advances their view of what's possible with some ingenuity. I've done these types of project write-ups with pics, and it can be tedious, so thanks for taking the time to detail it. As an engineer...

Re: What do we do????

I have to say that I'm shocked and disappointed that after Dave's appeal that we've only had a few donations. $250 a year is chump change split among all of us. There's at least 15 of us that are semi-regular posters here, and many more lurkers. All of us are getting something out of this forum, or ...

Re: What do we do????

PS - Maybe rather than "clearing out previous year's history", have a section at the top that shows who donated "This Year" and how much. I think it's important for members to realize how much (or how little) has been donated for the current year against current costs.

Re: What do we do????

I'd start by clearing out the donation history at the bottom of the Board Index from previous years. (Keep dag's info, he just donated today, and anyone else that donates before you get to clearing out the previous years info). This way members can see who is current with helping. No reason to keep ...

Re: Custom build 1772 Diesel

Dave - Looking great! Good job on the fuel tank persistence. It's worth it when it all comes together. I paid Ray dearly for a rear PTO and I've only ever used it twice, with the 442 tiller I "just had to have". I've toyed with the idea of developing a way to have a 3-point snowblower, but just so m...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Mike - I have a very steep driveway and I still only spin with chains when I'm being too aggressive, more usually on braking going downhill after the driveway is clear. There is not a tire choice that works instead of chains. 2 link chains with turfs are just the only way to go. Just make sure you d...

Re: Attachments: Spike Aerator and lift

Ha! dag texted that he had called me out somewhere! I've been lounging around a bit ill, haven't been keeping up. Mike, nice job! I went for the plug style aerator. The spike style is really most effective for slits for seed to drop into. To truly aerate clay soil the plug style is needed. That bein...

Re: Winter Snow and Storm Pics

Anyone have recommendations? Ags with chains or turfs with chains: what's your experience? Mike, great snow shots! Turfs with chains are the only way to go. The chains fall down in between the Ag lugs and aren't as effective, but with turfs all the chains can touch like they're supposed to. Also, o...

Re: Steering whines

Just be sure the pump doesn't have any crud in it. Likely "made offshore", even brand new can have bad stuff left behind after manufacturing. I'd pump some hydro fluid into a waste pan first just to flush it out. Other than my concerns about contaminants in the pump, I think it's a good idea! My abu...

Re: New 1650

I’ve used both MMO and sea foam, sea foam fixed a water in gas issue years ago on a daily driver... That's an instance where adding alcohol is a necessary evil. Alcohol makes gas go bad because it attracts water. But once you have water in the fuel, adding more alcohol is what will get it out. But ...

Re: New 1650

High Paul, good looker there, nice find! I believe Seafoam has alcohol in it, I'd avoid that. Alcohol isn't a good lubricant. I'd use Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO), follow their directions on the bottle for adding to the oil. It might take some good hot summer running before it finally loosens up, but I ...
