Re: Engine sleeve

You shouldn't have any core shift issues if the person setting up the machine to bore makes sure the cylinder is centered. I would take my block somewhere else if they can't do that. Best thing to do is get quotes to sleeve your old block and what will it cost you to get a replacement block. I would...

Re: Engine sleeve

It cost me $75 to $100 to sleeve a K321 a few years ago. The motor was ready to put back together. This was the 2nd block that I had sleeved. Both are running with no problems. Odds are the you will have to do a valve job, have the motor bored 0.010-0.020-.030 over and shipping/road trip to get bloc...

Re: Help with K181 Kohler

It wouldn't surprise me that this motor has never been rebuilt. Between blow-by past the rings and the lack of regular oil changes the may have some sludge and carbon built up in it. The butterflies on fuel injection unit on my Suburban likes to stick and let the motor idle at 1500 to 1800 rpm somet...

Re: Help with K181 Kohler

MMO isn't going to fix this problem. It may help prevent the problem in the future. I would try using a carb cleaner like Gumout. Spray the tappet and help push it down while you spin the motor over by hand. You may have to spray the tappet a few times before if moves on it's own. If this works I wo...

Re: Bad Gas

The 30 gas rule is for lawn and garden equipment only. F series tractors will run almost on anything that a spark plug can ignite if my memory is correct. There is more cylinders and mass turning on F series tractor motor than a motor in a Cub. The local motor shops in my area will ask how old the f...

Re: Bad Gas

Look at question #12 in Kohler FAQs http://www.kohlerengines.com/maintenance/faqs.htm. Kohler recomends against using fuel additives. Ethanol Shield claims it is a fuel additive. Star Tron claims to be a fuel additive. 2 products I wouldn't use. There is no substitute for good fuel maintance. Good f...

Paul,
Odds are you would have the same problem with your 682 last summer if you used Star Tron instead of Sta-Bil.

Re: Bad Gas

by ReicheP Merk, Looks like for the limited use of our cubs, compared to the family car the regular Stabil isn't perfect. No product will work if you have poor fuel storage habbits like you did with your 682. Odds are the fresh gas is what made you Cub run better since you added new gas along with ...

Re: K301 in 125 not happy

The first thing I would do is disconnect the driveshaft, take the belt off the pto (if you are using it) and the starter belt. I would make sure the starter, front pto or hydro trans is not causing the problem. If you haven't found the problem it's time to pull oil pan off the motor and remove conne...

I use a crankshaft bearing when I repair cranks. The steady rest holds the bearing in place.

Re: Cub Cadet Kohler k-301 Broken Crankshaft

Levi. The only way to fix the crank is in a lathe. I used a steady rest to support the tail end of the crank. I didn't use a counter balance when I spun the crank in a lathe. Spindle speed was 150 to 200 rpm.

Levi-Send me an email if your looking for someone to repair crank.

Cold Cranking amps are 310
Last Trac battery in my 149 was new in May of 2004.
Price tag on old battery was $37.95
New battery tag was $41.95.

I agree with Paul and Doog. Much easier to keep an topic together and follow from start to finish if the topic deals with a rebuild or restoration for an example.

The serial number for my 149 is in the same area as the one in the picture. One area of difference between the Wide Frame and Quiet Line is the motor mount area. There may be more.
