NF teaser spring
I am preparing to do some clutch service work on my 102. The teaser spring is broken and I've gotten tired of putting up with the jumpy clutch. While I have it apart it will be getting a new clutch disc, teaser spring, additional machine shim washer, and anti- chatter springs. When putting this one ...

Re: creeper gear oil
I have found that the lighter weight oils tend to weep out rather quickly from the older cast iron creeper drives even when the output seal is in perfect condition. I use 90 weight GL5 type gear oil in mine with no issues whatsoever and they stay filled far longer rather than just bleeding right out...

Re: IH-490489-R2 Belt
Joe, According to the Stens web site that belt is listed as 1/2" X 81 1/2" inches long. That being the case if it works fine for a narrow frame application then how about possibly using the IH-473462R4 81"long belt? That one does have the correct cross section and extra V depth dimensions. I picked ...

Re: 2012 Snow and Storm Pics
So far this year I have been using the blade fitted 102 to clean up what little snow we have had. Finally, a bonafide thrower using snow storm shows up today. My Son stopped by to lend a hand after plowing his driveway, his shift gets over way before mine so guess what one he jumped onto when he sho...

Re: Oversized rings? Piston play?
How much of a ridge groove can you feel with your finger nail at the top of the bore? Depending on the conditions factory bore wear tolerances do not always have to be adhered to on a scripture basis (IMHO). Personally, I consider out of round a larger issue than taper and that can usually be found ...

Re: Johnny Cash type of tractor.....
Tim, thank you for the reply. The conclusion that I can assume then is that no sort of casting core insert change was ever done between the K341 and K361 pattern blocks and that the K361 was from the start of it's own pattern. Of course many styles of block variations have been reported over the yea...

Harry, you ask a good question to what is something of a general observation on my part. I had to go outside with a flashlight to see for myself and then get the K series manual out to recall what I was thinking:lol: The transaxle on it is tagged as made on Nov. 69. The first two digits stamped on t...

This would be how my 126 is fitted and since the transaxle SN and engine SN fall on the same month I can't help but assume that it left the line that way. I believe it did. Forget the date now but I have it down someplace. I took care of the leaky breather last month  DSCN1173.JPG The discussio...

Re: Johnny Cash type of tractor.....
My impression had been that the die cast cam cover and round knurled dipstick arrived on the scene first sometime around the 1x6,7 series and was later replaced (around 1974?) by the stamped steel combination fill tube and pull ring dipstick. The later type do appear on the replacement engines. Is t...

This Morning I went looking for a rubber back sanding block. I know it's here somewhere :? Sometimes, it amazes me what I think I don't know. I wound up with this instead. Re: Amp gauge
Lewis, thanks again for the new pic, interesting that it is using deep draw steel construction with all brass hardware and a bakalite backing. To me that would imply more vintage construction so I think that would rule out it being a reproduction. Recently I purchased a 2 5/8" Stewart Warner mechani...

Lewis, that is very interesting. Thanks for showing us that. Up until today I had no idea that Faria had ever been contracted by IH to make gauges for them. Of course the 378424R91 gauge is the most common type to be found on the Cub Cadets and I think I recall reading in Ken Updike's book that it w...

I can't really say much bad about the single stage ones except that they don't like rock driveways very much. Lewis, the images are of the deck that was mounted on my 126 when I brought it home and knowing a bit about it's history I can't help but assume that it is the one fitted on when new. I agree with Mike. Others have reported lifting travel issues in the past because the wrong lift rod was being used, if I'm not mistaken there were at least 3 lengths made. I wanted to counter that issue and was looking for more than a chain. A length of black pipe with bungs welded into both ends a...

That's a nice find Lewis ;) When I came home with my 100 it too had a stuck exhaust valve. Spraying it with Liquid Wrench from inside of the valve margin and working it up and down at first with the rubber mallet and then by rotating the crank shaft got it moving again nicely in a couple of minutes....
