I use a small magnet on the retainers (keepers in my part of the country) and a dab of grease on the inside of them.
Odd to have the valve clearance too close. Usually they loosen up from wear.

Re: Got the old 1541 home
Jim, I wouldn't worry too much about the smoke, when the opposed twins sit for a while, the oil will collect in the bottom of the cylinders, and you will get a little smoke. Run some sea foam in the gas and let nature take it's course. Priming the carb is no big deal, the fuel pump can lose prime ov...

Re: Onan for 2072 ??
Man, go with a Command!!! Parts are way plentiful, great power, decent on fuel... there are a lot of videos on youtube on people who have done the upgrade. Just food for thought, but I think the hardest part to source would be a driveline from a Command powered Super (1884 2084 2284). They were all ...

P220g is "performer 20 hp gas" P218 g is 18 hp They are electronic ignition where the b43 and b48 are point type ignition. Big issues with them are the valve seats like to pop out of the block at 500 or so hours. They have an external coil and a crank trigger that is problematic and expensive. The i...

Re: 2284 not a very popular machine ?
+1 on the Ruegg hitch. The only issue that I had with mine was that there were a few nuts and bolts reversed. He had a couple of bolts welded where the nuts would have made a cleaner finished look. Not a problem to buzz them off and re weld. I ordered mine raw metal because I wanted to paint it red ...

Re: model 1541 starter replacement
My 1541 runs a 50" deck just fine with the factory main jet. I'm not sure that your question about the main jet being adjustable was answered. Yes it is adjustable. If you remove the air cleaner you will see a brass slotted screw with a spring under it pointing upward. This is the main jet. If you w...

Re: 2182 pictures please
You could have them measure the carb opening and see if any pod filters, like what is used on motorcycles, are available to use either temporarily or as a permanent solution. It's better than using it without one. Yup. I was going to suggest a K&N filter with the side panel off of it. Also, I wonde...

Re: 1864 issues
I re read my post and the part where I was talking about the fuse holder is confusing. What I should have said is check the fuse on both test tabs to make sure there is power through the fuse. Also pull the fuse and make sure you only have power on the input side. If you have power on both with the ...

Jess, I will post a pic of mine when I get home this evening. The other guy is too busy polishing his loader and fender flares. (Jab jab poke)
Edit: might be thinking of the 2086, but that intake hose on the brochure pic doesn't seem like it faces the right way....

Don, If you have the schematic it really helps. I am not looking at one right now, but from memory, the first things that I would check are the simple ones such as the fuse on the battery tray by the solenoid, make sure that the fuse holder has power by pulling out the fues and checking each termina...

Ben,
I'm not a narrow frame guy, but I would have jumped on that deal. Nice haul!
It seems to me that the gears inside the hydraulic lift are the same as chevy 350 oil pump gears...something to check in to.

Kurt, if you have not already put the radiator back in, please check the water pump for bad bearings and or leaks. My 2182 has a bad water pump, and I am curious as to what all has to be done to remove and reinstall the radiator. Please post some pics if you get a chance. Welcome to the forum! Vinny

Picked this up today at an estate sale, and I can honestly say that I have never seen one like this before. At first I thought that it was home made, but it is put together way too good. Re: 1650 dual hydro
Jess, you could get dual hydraulics on a 1250 1450 or 1650. As far as rarity, I have only owned one (a 1250) and only seen probably 15 others in person. I would say less than 5% had the dual hyd. option. The starters will interchange, but some k series starters had 10 teeth and some had 13 on the dr...

Dave,
Hold my purse while I type this.
Just to clarify, I was talking about OTHER PEOPLE'S links, not my own.
Gotta get back to my scrapbooking, and I have a souffle in the oven.
On a side note, I did try to get in touch with my feminine side once, and I got a yeast infection.
