Re: Dirty Stinkin PTO Clutch!!

Maybe the collar was turned the wrong way when it was tightened. Try to loosen it by turning it the other direction from what you have been trying, if you have not already done that.

Re: Quiet line Questions

Big MIke,
Some QL's may have had balance gears, but all I can say is the TC-157 Parts Catalog (revision 24 dated 2-81) does not show balance gears for any model QL.

Re: Quiet line Questions

Like Vinny said, continued use of them after the engine iso mount wore out, caused a lot of drive line wear (driveshaft, driveshaft couplers, clutch/clutch driver on the gear drive versions (800,1000, 1200) etc) that can be rather pricey to replace/repair, specially the gear driver models. The engin...

Ken, It is in Fredericktown, MO, and this is the 12th one (and rumor has it the last one). It is a small show that draws exhibitors from several states and Canada. It is now open to anything IH, but was originally for Farmall/International Cubs and Cub Cadets only, and is hosted by JP Tractor, proba...

Re: Therapy doesn't always involve a couch...

Because of the offset engine, and as with a Farmall Cub, ALWAYS keep the engine on the UPHILL side when mowing or working across a hillside, other wise they can, and depending on the degree of the slope, will turn over. Also, when jacking up the rear of one, always block/wedge the front axle to prev...

Lew,

The front axle is stock. The front tires are 3.50 x 8 on Original or early 70/100 wheels and I guess they just make it look wider.

JLazar, you didn't miss the creeper, it doesn't have one. A creeper and wheel weights are about the only thing missing, and I have the weights, just not sure I want to put them on it. It also has a 12 hp engine.

'Cause I wanted to.......

In the time frame that this tractor was built (1966), the IH Cub Cadet line was part of the Industrial Equipment Group of the IH Farm Equipment Division. The other industrial tractors were all painted yellow and had the number 2 or 3 as a prefix to the hood decal/model number. Why not the Cub Cadet ...

Re: front pto

No lock nut. Just tighten the collar on the bearing to lock it to the crank and then tighten the set screw. The locking collar should turn counter clockwise (as you look at the end of the crank from the front of the tractor) to lock it. Use a hammer and punch in the empty hole (not the one the set s...

Re: Can someone talk me out of buying a 71?

I don't know for sure, but I doubt if the cranks in the deer and Cub Cadets are the same. There were 28 different cranks (nose size and shape) used in the K301 engines. The base of the block and the oil pans are different on the Kohlers used in Cub Cadets than the ones was used on most other brands....

Re: Drive shaft roll bin

I am a little curious as to what was holding that axle in the housing. The axle you picture appears to be from the left side (brake side) of an Original, and not a 122. The axles on an Original are held in the axle housings by a clip that fits on the axle shaft, not by a clip on the end of the axle ...

Re: PTO/CLUTCH DIS-ENGAGER

It depends on what the serial number of your tractor is and if it still has the PTO clutch with a brake. If the S/N is 482000 or above, the PTO has a brake and the P/N you listed is correct for the thrust button (item 14 in the parts manual/lookup). If the S/N is 481999 or below it does not have a b...

Re: Drive shaft roll bin

Mine has two bolds on one end and the othe has the roll pin, closest to the trans. It would appear someone has done some driveshaft parts swaping. There should be coiled spring pins commonly called "spirol pins" (not common roll pins) on both ends of the driveshaft: one that connects the rear coupl...

No, the same cup is used for both electric and recoil starting. The "cup" with the groves is used with a different version of recoil starter that Kohler used, but was not used on the Cub Cadet. Part number 163, a plate or friction "shoe'' (more than one per assy) has a semi sharpened edge that will ...

If that is the number cast on the rod, that is not the part number of the rod. The same rod is used for both the 2-7/8" bore and the 2-15/16 bore K161 because the stroke is the same (2-1/2") . T he 2-15/16 bore in a K181 block has a 2-3/4" stroke. Rather than the bore size, you need to know if the r...

And CLEAN the points. They may look clean, but even new ones can oxidize enough to not fire, even though they look clean and are new. Close the points on a dollar bill and pull the bill thru a couple of times to clean them, the rag paper the bill is made from will clean off any oxidation or dirt/oil...
