Re: ????? is there something to look for????
No, but the date codes on the engine (left side) and on the castings will give a general idea of when it was built. The date codes look like a piece about 1/2" high, 2-3" long screwed on the casting, but are actually part of the casting (they actually were screwed to the wooden pattern the mold was ...

Re: ????? is there something to look for????
The serial number is on a metal plate on the right front side of the tractor, on the steering box by the bottom of the steering shaft. About the first thing to look for on a Cub is to see if any of the castings are cracked or have been welded : the front bolster that the front axle is attached to an...

Re: 108 decal
I know these decals are not original to the tractor, they were installed after the hood and dash were repainted, but I have no way of knowing if they came from Cub Cadet or from one of the other vendor's that sells reproduction decals. Just thought they were kinda odd...........one of those things t...

Re: Gotta stop this.....
Greg,
My attachment to it depends on what, if anything, I find wrong with it. From the way the PO talked I think I need to check the timeing and the valve adjustment. It appears to be a good tractor, and I have had some email interest in buying it, and at this time it's not even for sale.

Re: 108 decal
Don't know Jess, the data plate with the S/N is missing. The tractor appears to have been repainted at some point, so the decals may not be the originals, but what ever they are , they are not correct.

This is the decal on both sides of the 108 (wouldn't let me load but 5 pictures below). Notice anything odd about it?

Gotta stop this.....
Last week at RPRU I picked up a 106 and 100. This week I lost email and internet access due to the storms, so with nothing else to do, these other CC's got on my trailer and followed me home. I gotta stop........ Notice anything odd about the hood decal on the 108? It's like that on both sides.

Re: In need of advice
First off, it is your tractor, put whatever you want in it. From a collectors point of view, if the tractor is not as it was built, it is no longer that model and the value to that collector would be less in my opinion. From a users and not a collectors point of view, you made a 982 with a blown eng...

1. I think it is easier if the transaxle is out of thetractor.
2. Probably, hard to say for sure without seeing the tractor in operation.

Grote Tail Lights
I went to the Tri-State Engine and Tractor swap meet last month, and came across these Grote tail lights MVC-340S.JPG MVC-341S.JPG They are like the ones used on the early Cub Cadets however the markings are a bit different. On the one on the right, the light is marked Grote, the lens is marked Grot...

Re: Panic mode
I had an Original that would stop like that while mowing (same ignition switch), and the tractor would not restart until the key was turned off and then back on. Even though the key was still in the "on" position, the switch would "open" internally and break contact from the vibration of use and not...

I would remove the balance gears, it won't hurt the engine. I have not used one of Kirks balance plates but know of others that have, and they like them.

Re: Now It's an AWOL Coiled Pin Spring on 782D Driveshaft
Todd, Are you using the "standard" or heavy duty coiled pins from McMaster? I have some of their "heavy duty" pins that I had trouble driving them through the hole in the drive shaft on a 100. They would not compress enough to go in, and trying to drive them in would split or mushroom the end. I tri...

Re: What OIL for MODEL 129 with Kohler Engine ???
It is my understanding that Shell Rotella (for diesels) still has some zinc in it and you can get it in 30W and 10W-30. It meets API CF and CF-2 service class standards, but I don't know how the SF and CF standards compare. I understand Lucas Oil has an oil that still has a high zinc content, but I ...

Re: What OIL for MODEL 129 with Kohler Engine ???
As per the Kohler Engines K-Series engine manual, it should be a, quote: "high-quality detergent oil of API (American Petroleum Institute) Service Class SF or SG." end quote.

Re: What OIL for MODEL 129 with Kohler Engine ???
Kohler says to use 30W when the temps are above 32 degrees, 10W-30 or 40 from zero to 32, 5W-20 or 5W-30 from -2 or below up to 32 degrees, all should be Service Class SF or SG. 10W-30 and 40 are not recommended (by Kohler) above 32 degrees.

Re: 2550 parking brake
Jess,
the tractor belongs to one of my son's, and I have not looked at it, only looked at the parts breakdown like you posted, but cannot tell from it, how it could be adjusted. He says when the brake is applyed, the tractor will still roll.
