Re: Cub Cadet 147

Nice looking 147. I have had mine since November 2000. I have a snow thrower for it, which does a good job. It is my main mowing tractor. Mine does have the electric lift. When this photo was taken, the lift was broke. I repaired and reinstalled it.

I think I may make that piece you made. Can that be made from regular cold rolled steel?

Bellville spring washer instead of the piece you made? I assume the washer would go ahead of the teaser spring?

Re: Cub 70 clutch teaser spring, broke again

I like that idea. I have a mini-lathe and could probably make that on there. So, does the clutch still operate the same. Problem when the spring is broken is lurching and not having a smooth take off. That's how I knew it broke again.

Cub throwout bearing. I will check that when I replace the spring, but I did not remember it being worn. Thanks for the suggestions. Gives me things to check.

Cub 70 clutch teaser spring, broke again

Seems like only a few years ago I replaced the clutch teaser spring on my Cub 70 and it just broke again. Anything in particular that would cause the spring to break? Prior to that, say at least the first 10 or so years I had it, no problems.

Re: LT 1550

I worked on a friends LTX1050, another box store model. I don't think his made 10 years and the hydro failed. Pretty much non-repairable. In my opinion they are pitiful compared to our beloved IH Cub Cadets.

The question of the cast iron case crossed my mind, egg shell being a good descriptor. But seeing your projects over the years I thought you considered that.

Re: New Owners

I would tend to agree. Lots of talented people own these machines. Several, even now, are making parts for these great little tractors. It will be interesting in the long haul to see what happens.

New Owners

I suppose most know that Cub is now owned by Stanley. I wonder if they will keep supplying parts for our old machines? I think we have been fortunate to have had parts support for as long as we have.

Yep, sorry to say these types of forums seem to be "out of style". GT Talk has never been the same since senior George passed away. He was faithful at posting events and photos of events. Yes and I too miss the colorful guys that made the IH Registry and those early plow days. Mcamp, I will be in yo...

Tom, Like it or not, Facebook is where most of the traffic has gone. There are pages for all kinds of garden equipment. Most forums that I am a member of are practically dead. GT Talk used to be huge until their great ambassador, the elder George Randal passed away. I am on maybe 8 Facebook groups d...

Inquiring what color of paint people are using to paint their Brinly plow. Would like a RustOleum color or some other brand rattle can paint.

Rear anti-scalp roller

Years ago I installed a rear anti-scalp roller on my 48" deck. I installed it level with the front roller. I am thinking of lowering the rear one and would like to know what others may have done and how well yours works. The reason I want to change the location is I have some very near scalping when...

Re: Older Cub Parts

One thing to watch on aftermarket parts, thickness of the gasket. I prefer a thick gasket for the rear because the cover is just a steel plate. OEM gasket is around .050" thick and I will be making my own for now on. I hate leaks and just had my 147 apart for the hydro gasket and the axle extensions...

Re: Stanley B&D buying MTD.

https://www.messicks.com/ has a great parts site for Cub Cadet. They have the parts lists with current inventory and cost.

So that explains whey the differential cover gasket went from $14 two years ago to $29 a month ago. Sounds like the end is coming for the older Cubs.

Right, I checked that after turning to make sure there was enough clearance. It is a wonder someone did not come up with something better to replace that stud. Maybe a harder material. I ordered some of those 1/16" thick Teflon washers for the front spindles to supposedly make the steering easier. I...

Older Cub Parts

I recently learned just how expensive parts for the older Cubs have become. $29 for a rear cover gasket and over $30 for the stud for the Ross steering box. Fortunately I have a mini-lathe and was able to repair the stud and I found thick gasket material and made a pattern for future needs. Anyway t...

OK, time to eat crow. Seems I owe my vendor a huge apology. He checked with CNH and is seems there was a mistake in packaging. They replaced all 50 items in question and sent him an apology. Serves me right for jumping to conclusions. A lesson learned! My brother worked for CNH and said that is not ...

Re: I like to suport the little guy, BUT

I take offense when someone tries to fool me. Just glad I went to the dealer and got the OEM part. The part in question is the transmission rear cover gasket and I have had issues with mine leaking. The OEM gasket is almost twice as thick. I feel the vender, who I hope does not advertise on here lie...
