Re: I like to suport the little guy, BUT

Yea, I learned my lesson. Funny since I sent the vendor the photo of what should be in the box he has been silent. Just hope he is good and I get my refund. Till the next time I will buy gasket material of similar thickness and make my own. Hard to pay almost $30 for a plain old cover gasket.

Re: I like to suport the little guy, BUT

An excellent reason to stay with my local dealer, who is Messick's in Elizabethtown, PA. This dealer is amazing. Their whole parts inventory is available online so that you know before you go if they have the part in stock and what it will cost. I thought the part in question may have had an error i...

I like to suport the little guy, BUT

I like to give my business to the smaller businesses because I think the service is most times better. Well, I needed parts for a Cub repair and ordered what appeared to be all OEM parts. When the parts arrived and I noted a gasket was thinner than what I had purchased before from my local dealer, s...

Got it apart today. Definitely was not neoprene because is swelled and got soft and leaked. Learned another lesson the hard way. Stay with OEM parts!

Yea, it is not as easy this time after having a Lumbar Fusion and hip replacement with a tendon tear repair. Getting up and down does not go as easy as it once did.

Dreaded Hydro Gasket

Remember back in the IH Registry days when the hot subject was the hydro gasket and guys were making gaskets from neoprene? I bought one from someone on the registry and finally got to install it years later in 2018. Well it lasted about 2 1/2 years and now the 147 is leaking badly. I don't have it ...

Would you happen to have any photos? The engine vapors attract a lot of dirt on that side of the engine.

Re: Hydraulic lift control lever broke

Finally got to repair the lift control lever. My son's Cub had the lever with the Spirol pin. I purchased a good used arm not knowing what I would see. After having my son look at the arm I was reasonably sure it was the one with the pin because he saw a hole in the lever cross shaft. For some reaso...

Re: Carb Repairs

My carb is in great shape except for the throttle shaft and the common worn hole. I had already installed the repair bushing. I will carefully drill that out and install a new one and most likely will purchase the later style aftermarket throttle shaft from Brian Miller. I am in my early seventies a...

Re: Carb Repairs

My one #30 carb has a straight shaft with two flats at the top. I found 3 of those on ebay. I would like the shaft that includes the mount for the carburetor linkage like the later #30 carbs have. Would you know the part #. I have decided to repair it. I have the bushing in, but it is worn. I can dr...

Re: Carb Repairs

You would need good drill press and mine is not that tight. Brian Miller will do it for $45, then their is shipping, which runs the total pretty high. Kohler wants $35 for just the throttle shaft. I am going to check with a friend who has a machine shop at his house and has done great work for me be...

Carb Repairs

I was just looking at some prices for parts for the Carburetor on my 14hp Kohler, ouch! I need a throttle shaft and would like to have a bushing installed in the top half. I did the thick washer repair, but it does not last very long. $45 for the bushing and machine work, Around $35 for a Kohler thr...

Re: Breather line into the air cleaner

I considered David Kirk's idea, but on the 14 hp Kohler the spring to the governor arm is different. There is another short little arm that the hose would interfere with. That hose running down inside the frame would keep things clean.

Breather line into the air cleaner

Been thinking of trying something with the Cub 147. With all the dust and other stuff stirred up while mowing, a good bit collects on the breather cover and below. I was thinking of running a hose from a breather plate that would have the normal opening blocked off to the air cleaner backing plate s...

Hydraulic lift control lever broke

My son has a 1650 with a possible broken control lever. Anyone on here ever change one that can give us some direction on replacing it? The manual as I recall does not have much info. Looking at the manual it appears removing the gas tank would be the first step. He is not a mechanic and lives 2hrs ...

Re: Shop heater

One bay of our two car garage is my workshop and I heat with a Corona brand Kerosene heater. I had a salamander style heater and it smelled when it shut off, but I was using the red dyed kero at the time. Anyway it was too large for the garage anyway. A fellow co-worker gave me the Corona heater and...

Re: Forum Ownership up for grabs

I agree, many walk behind sites are much quieter than they were say two years ago. Now I am also on several garden tractor Facebook pages and there is a lot of traffic on there. Especially Planet Jr and David Bradley. The youngsters of today found all they want in their smart phones. As us old guys ...

I believe you need the driveshaft, which is item #1 on the attached parts list. Looks like your fan has lost all of its blades.

This past weekend at PA Plowday was hanging out with some other old registry guys, Bud Horn, Mike Marzullo, Engine Mike, Dave Chester and Steve Townsend. The IH Registry is always discu...

Re: IH Registry Days and Members

Has anyone heard any thing from Mark Bowersox (the founder of this and the original IH Registry site)? Mark did not start this site, in fact he was the reason the Registry went away. Much of the information appears to be secret. There is a site called The WayBack Machine where you can go and search...
