Rescued another Cyclops

Found this little gem about 5 miles from home. I had to get it out of a basement that it shared with a large dog (lots of smelly land mines) and drag it about 100 yards into the fresh air through a muddy yard, so I took the 1535 along and let it do all of the hard work. I was really surprised how we...

Re: Ford, Jacobsen, Oliver and MM garden tractors

Todd, I know a little bit about the 1977-83 second series. This series had white fenders, and side panels for the engine. They were basically a Ford Quietline for lack of a better term. I have a Ford grille, and one that is from a Jacobsen, and lots of side panels...probably 5 or 6 of each. I have a...

Re: Model H-900 Groundsaw

Paul, Wow! That is a really neat piece. It's amaing to think that it survived all that time, and was as well preserved as it is. That should bring a ton of attention at the shows. I am not very familiar with clearcoat finishes, but I would think that a semi gloss or satin finish would look a lot bet...

Scott had bought some "O" parts from me a few years back and we had talked a few times. He sure did seem like an honest and genuinely nice guy. He had plans on coming to St.Louis for a convention a few years ago, and we were going to try to meet up for lunch but his health didn't allow it. I enjoyed...

Re: Fuel Stabilizers

I talked to a Kohler rep in 2008, and he told me that at that time they recommended drainig the fuel system, and runing the carb out of fuel or if there was a drain on the bowl, opening it to remove all fuel. He indicated that 85% of their complaints ended up being fuel related issues. I wonder what...

Re: New-to-me 1872 starting issues

Stephen, The starter is buried under a lot of sheetmetal. It is best to remove the engine to get to it. I have seen a lot of butchered sheetmetal when people try to change coils and starters without removing the engines. The starter is probably OK, but they have to be very clean to work right. I hav...

Re: E-Z rake E--Z vac model 40

Got the frame all mounted yesterday, and put the engine back on! Everything went pretty easy. Here's what I got so far. I don't like how high the trailer hitches, and the hose from the blower outlet is some sort of solid fuel transfer hose that is too stiff, and it pushes back on the trailer. I went...

Well, I got about as far as I could tonight without doing any welding. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Not really all that fond of the hitch pins that I got, but I still have spring loaded pins in mind. These will be strong enough, but I just want to up the "neat factor". I had to take the en...

Re: E-Z rake E--Z vac model 40

Thought I would check in with a progress report on the mounting bracket situation. I don't really like any of the bracket designs that I have seen for this model, so I figured I would try to engineer something a little more positive locking. I had thought about trying to use the front qa brackets an...

1806 - GT with gear drive and manual lift (xx0x, the 0 indicates manual trans, the six appears to be marketing to give it more value than a 1204) Tom, I think the 6 indicated 6 speeds, because the 1806 had a factory creeper. Good list, and great explanation of each model. The CCC models get overlook...

Frank, the 20 hp motors use a different bearing than the 18 hp ones. I don't have the number handy, but if you search back I posted it about May of last year. I got the bearing at O'Reilleys. I was cleaning out a wood pile with a wagon on the 2082 and the deck did the same thing. I actually used the...

Thanks guys, Got an idea in my head...thinking that I am going to use the rear closure plate (where the hitch mounts) from a cyclops and fab up a bracket with the slots facing up so it would be a drop in setup. I might be over analyzing it, but I have been wondering if the front quick attach bracket...

E-Z rake E--Z vac model 40

I have been looking for one of these for a while now, and actually bought an off topic (Allis Chalmers) tractor with a similar setup from my uncle-in-law sice I thought I would never find one. The A/C is powered off of the tractor's rear pto, but this one is powered by a Kohler K91 4 hp engine. The ...

Can we talk about the caster wheel mod? I am really interested in it. I am pretty new to the 60" decks, but it doesn't take long to notice the noise from the front wheels. I have one on a 2182 and one on a 2086. The 2086 lifts the wheels a lot higher than the 2182, and I haven't investigated why. On...

Fender Flares

This one showed up a while back. Just now getting a chance to post pics. This is how it came to me. Does need some tlc, but the plastic is all intact with a few defects. Re: Lawn tractors and tilt hood models

Joe, The 10 and 15s are gear drive (variable speed, really) and the 20s are hydro. There were some in the tilt hood series that had an electric pto clutch, and some had a mechanical clutch. I just sold a 1320 that had a manual pto, but there was a marked spot on the dash for a pto switch, and a 1620...

Paul, I guess two of us were doing this mod today. This is my second time (two different tractors). I have found that it can be done without lifting the engine, or removing the mounts if you remove the exhaust manifold. If the right motor mount bolts are LOOSENED to the end of the threads, you can g...

Dale,

Do you ever get to the St.Louis area, or have a way to get a complete deck shipped? I have a beautiful 38" deck from a 1620 that I would like to sell. I would take $80.00 for it if it would be something that you could coordinate.

Re: CC 102 -K321as

Rick, The flywheel housing on the K321 is too wide. The 147 was the first 14 hp tractor, and if you l ook at the frame you can see that they were widened to accept the bigger engine, then they went to the wide frame design to accommodate the physically larger 14 and 16 hp engines (as I understand it...

Nice snag!!!! If I was buying another here is what I would look at on a preventative maintenance basis. The rear end is the big deal on them. They aren't all bad, so don't obsess on it, but don't overlook it. You can feel it shifting in the chassis when accelerating forward or backward if it is loos...

Jess, keep us up on the progress. I was considering doing something similar, but using the 82 series dash tower and trying to figure out how to get the cyclops dash lights to look right. I saw a 782 at Red Power in 2012 that someone had converted from an 1864. If I remember right it was all 782 as f...

I read elsewhere that you DO NOT want to use synthetic ATF in this recipe. The fumes will become very toxic.
