When you go to the vintage saw site, the mac two man saw in the picture is sitting in my garage. I have one just like that. Also have a mac tht has the starter rope on the same side as the bar/chain. Have a bunch of old mac saws.......from the 50's and early 60's. A 2-man diston(sp) with a 2cyl engi...

Stolen 1200
I have lost faith in cub collectors. I visited my defunct cub patch today and found that somebody has stolen one of the remaining Model 1200 cubs and a pair of tires and wheels off a 102. The 1200 was not visible from anywhere since I have let the weeds grow to over 4 feet. Only way someonw would kn...

Re: cub cadet 1782 diesel
This is a problem with the 1782's. The position of the radiator under the consol means poor air flow. My 1782 does the same thing. Changed the pump, thermostat and flushed it and cleand and flushed the radiator. No help. That is why it sits in the barn behind a lot of junk. Not my favorite cub diese...

Re: To spark or not to spark Why is the question?
Best way to check switch is to run a wire directly from battery to coil. Leave switch in off position and check for spark at the plug. If none then it is time to check coil. If there is spark then you probably have a switch problem. Also check the back f the switch. If there is a lot of rust/corrosi...

Re: Burning coal
Have a house that still has the original coal stoker furnace. Works great but the dust is the main problem. Coal is not clean like wood or other forms of heat. You also have to clean the flue ant that is a real messy job. The fly ash is so fine it is everywhere. The dust fromt he coal even though it...

Paul: I have a real good fix for the clutch problem in the QL's. Take an older drive and machine off the hub. Leave enough to make a lip and find the self aligning hub. Put it behind the older drive plat now it aligns as needed with the ISO mounts but you have a real solid driver. I used to know wha...

Re: 1782 diesel wont start
Be careful using starter fluid with glow plugs. It can cause n explosing and ruin your rings. Have seen people use it and have the intake hose blow off with a ball of fire. You need to bleed staring with the filter, pump, injector lines at pump and then at injectors. Sonds like your pump may be a li...

Re: 2072 carburetor
It is not the carb..It is the fuel pump. It will get a hole in the diaphram and leak into the crank case.
I had a 782 that this happened to and set it on fire. fortunately I was able to douse it but the crank case was full of gasoline.

That is the result of both the ethanol and the additives in the government gasoline. 30 Day shelf life especially if it is exposed to the atmosphere. Alcohol is like a water magnet and once it sucks up a lot of moisture, then the additives began to gel and that is what you get...goo.... You have to ...

That is a magnum engine so turn the key on and jump the starter solenoid. It should start as it does not need any current fro the battery to run. If jumping the solenoid does not work then change batteries. Jump from the battery to the small post onthe solenoid. You will not be able to mow as you ar...

I would suspect that you will need to advance the timing some to offset for the slower burn rate of the alcohol. If you leave it at the setting for gasoline, you will not be getting the full punch of the alcohol.

Re: 782 rear end problems
It sounds like the relief valves are the problem. If you have another hydro, steal the relief valves out of it and try them in the 782. They do go bad and I have had several that acted exactly like this. Every time it was the relief valves. The automatics have a tall over 1" tops that are 6 sided to...

You can use a buzz box...(Old Fuel Dragster Racing Device) Buzzer with battery and leads to set mag with. Will do the same thing. Buzzes when points are closed and no buzz when open. tells you exactly when electrical contact is lost.

A little confused. Was the battery dead or was it charged and the starter only turned over without the bendix engaging? The 1450 has an ammeter on it. This should show something unless it is bad. What happens when you hit the starter/ does the meter show negative? If so it is functioning. If it does...
